Avengers: Infinity War – Writers Clarify “67 Characters” Comment!

Avengers: Infinity War might not have exactly 67 characters!

Earlier this year, the Russo Brothers remarked that they had "67 characters" for Avengers: Infinity War. That comment gave rise to a lot of speculation, especially because that's a record number of characters for even a two-part event film. We even made a list of who they could be.

But it appears that we may not actually get 67 characters in Avengers: Infinity War. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo of screenwriters who are penning the script for the set of movies, have clarified what the directors actually meant by the comment. Markus tells Huffington Post, “Well, I mean that number is literally "” that number comes from the fact that that's everyone who's already been introduced.”

He adds that they have "about 60-something characters" when they line up the ones who are available from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe installments. And that excludes the new ones they can bring in. McFeely explains:

We had our office filled with cards of everybody who was alive and available, and the brothers came in and went, “Whoa.” So that doesn't mean that everyone is, you know, there's not going to be 67 lead parts.

So, what the Russo Brothers stated was actually the number of characters they can use, not what we can necessarily expect to see in the Avengers: Infinity War movies.

During the interview, the writers also made it clear that Thanos is the one they are looking forward to most about Avengers: Infinity War. They really want to give him "good scenes" in the movies. According to McFeely:

You know, he's never been the villain in any of the movies. He's never been the main character in that way, so giving lots of good screen time to Thanos is paramount and pretty fun.

Of course, this won't be the first time the Mad Titan will feature in a MCU installment. The character has been teased a number of times since The Avengers. But those were just cameos. And the writers think that Thanos not having "an amazing scene" in the past is "an advantage" for them. This is because we have been anticipating the supervillain to come in and do something really menacing for some time. And all they have to do is "to deliver it". McFeely adds, “We don't have to convince them that he's gonna be interesting. We just have to execute what has been teased.”
