Following the huge success of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which became the most profitable installment in the entire Mutant Movie Universe, it is no wonder that Fox is trying to expand with more X-Men adventures and also more solo movies. Thus, besides bringing to a close the second X-Men trilogy and besides ending the troubled Wolverine franchise, the studio is also taking off the ground with Deadpool (one of the most awaited superhero flicks in years) and Gambit, while rumors say that new movies are also being planned (such as X-Force).

So where are we now? We are now at the very end, with X-Men: Apocalypse, while also being at the very beginning - the roster will change once again and we will witness new adventures from our favorite mutants.

In a very extensive interview with Deadline, producer Simon Kinberg gave quite a few tidbits of information about the next mutant-centric movies, namely Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse. Thus, we have found out more about the plots, characters, timeframes and even new trailers - do you want to find out more?

The producer said that it will be the biggest Mutant event ever, both in scope and scale. But it will also bring something new to the table, since it will be a more emotional journey for all the characters involved - namely those characters who were the focus since First Class started.

X-Men: Apocalypse is the end of a trilogy in the sense that it ends the story arcs of the younger Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Beast, while it also introduces the characters who will be the main focus in the future: Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm.

Head on to the next page for more details!

A main character for X-Men: Apocalypse

Mystique and Quicksilver

Thus far, almost all the X-Men movies (except for First Class) have been centered on a single character, despite being ensemble movies: Wolverine. For X-Men: Apocalypse, Simon Kinberg said that there will be a switch, with the focus story being on Mystique. And this is a nice change of pace, which basically prepares the fans for Hugh Jackman's exit.

According to Kinberg, the story will pick up 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past and will see Mystique taking the mantle of responsibility. As we all know, she did save the US President and showed the world that mutants can be good people if they are left in peace.

But this makes us wonder - what happens to Professor X? Isn't he at her side to guide her? Until now, he was the one most accountable for all the actions of the X-Men - what happens and changes things?

The hint may be in the Comic Con trailer. Professor X finally caught a glimpse of Apocalypse's tremendous power and exclaimed, I've never felt power like this before. And, besides the dread, we can also say that he was also in awe when tapping into Apocalypse's psyche. Could this be the hint?

As we believe, Bryan Singer is yet to reveal many surprises about the next X-Men movie. And this might just be one of them. We do see him and his 4 Horsemen entering the X-Mansion and basically capturing the good Professor. And we are left with that - but what if Xavier is seduced by that power and becomes himself a minion of the most powerful mutant ever? If that happens, then Mystique is the one to lead the X-Men in the absence of a Wolverine. Could this be it? Is this the reason why she takes the mantle of responsibility, as Kinberg himself says it?

Days of Future Past erased the entire timeline before it. So it is understandable why Mystique now has a much bigger role in this universe. But how big will it get? Until now, we haven't heard anything about Jennifer Lawrence extending her contract with Fox for more X-Men movies.

Quicksilver's story expanded

Another reveal made by Simon Kinberg concerns newcomer Quicksilver, who was the protagonist of the best scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past. According to the producer, Quicksilver will have a personal reason for joining the X-Men.

As we all know, one of the 4 Horsemen of Apocalypse is Magneto himself, who is somehow convinced to become one of the powerful minions. In Days of Future Past, we saw Quicksilver saying that his mother dated someone who controlled metal - so he will evidently search for his father, only to learn who he actually is.

Unfortunately, there is no word yet about the powerful Scarlet Witch, which may as well be another surprise prepared by Bryan Singer - after all, the reference about her was dropped on the cutting room floor in X-Men: Days of Future Past. So we do know that she exists in this continuity. And if we are to bet on something, that something is that she'll pop up next year, most likely towards the end of the movie.

What do you think? Hyped up as much as possible? Well, we are - and we cannot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to debut on the 18th of December. And that is because, as Simon Kinberg revealed, that's when we will see the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse.
