Wonder Woman: Artist Releases a History of the Amazons in Images
Wonder Woman has been in theaters for two weeks, but the hype hasn't diminished. And for good reason, as Patty Jenkins' film marked a new direction for the DCEU, hopefully toward creating better stories.
The film was also visually unique in the shared universe, combining the warmth of Themyscira's colors with the coldness of the rest of the world, and young Diana’s history lesson was among the most visually impressive moments in Wonder Woman. During the scene, Renaissance-era pictures depicting the creation of man and the Amazons, as well as the war between the Olympian Gods, came to life.
We’ll be able to see the painting come to life again when the Blu-ray is released, but until then, we can enjoy images released by artist Houston Sharp:
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Patty Jenkins and her team to create the animated painting at the beginning of Wonder Woman. It was a huge undertaking, but I had a small team of super-talented artists to help finish it on time, and Patty and Co. were very supportive along the way.
Each panel was painted separately, and stitched together into one massive painting. We tried achieving a classical oil painting look, while working in a way that was easy for the animators to work with (which meant keeping everything on their own layers, painting behind figures, etc.). It took a lot of planning and coordination between multiple artists, but it was well worth the challenge.
Check out the images below. If you've seen the movie, you know that they’re well worth your while!
