If Deadpool is a smash-hit, even with an R-rating, can Wolverine do the same?

Back in 2005, David Benioff (known for his colossal work on Game of Thrones) wanted to make the first R-rated movie set in the X-Men universe. That movie was supposed to be called X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Unfortunately, his script wasn't used, and we all know how the final product came out.

For the second Wolverine flick, James Mangold (and, obviously, the studio) have discussed the necessity of such a rating. Given the fact that Wolverine's main powers are the ability to heal from the most gruesome wounds and a talent for slashing people up, a higher rating seemed necessary. But they went in the other direction, focusing on other elements of the hero's personality.

So, will we finally see a more mature version of the mutant on the silver screen? It appears that we will. As mentioned so many times before, Deadpool's success will open many doors, allowing more and more superhero flicks to remain faithful to their origins. There is already talk about an R-rated X-Force flick.

But this isn't all - Fox apparently aims for such a rating for the third (and final) Wolverine, as well. The source of this news is a Reddit user, who posted an interesting pic:

Back at Comic Con, Hugh Jackman teased the fans, saying just three words: old, man, and Logan. As we know that story, the adaptation should maintain the grittiness and the overall feeling that the world has already gone to hell. It cannot be done with a PG-13 movie. The enemies need to be dispatched in the most violent manner, in order to show that an aged and retired superhero is far more dangerous than he was in his prime.

For now, we can only say this: Old Man Logan and R-rated work together like a charm.
