Suicide Squad is still more than two months away from hitting the theaters, but it looks like Warner Bros. has a lot of faith in the movie. And it also looks like they are considering it a hot enough property that it can generate an audience for sequels and spinoffs.
Back in March, we came across a rumor suggesting that a sequel to the David Ayer flick was in the works, and that it would kick off filming sometime in 2017.
Earlier this month, we heard another rumor claiming that the studio is planning a Suicide Squad spinoff movie with Harley Quinn in a central role. The movie will reportedly feature notable DC Comics female characters, both heroes and villains.
Yet another rumor has surfaced on the Web that indicates that Warner Bros. is actually considering more than one Suicide Squad spinoff!.
The rumor – dropped by We Got This Covered - states that there have been "more than a few talks" on the subject of giving some other members of Suicide Squad "their own spinoffs". And these movies, like the Harley Quinn spinoff, will "open the door for a ton of new DC characters to show up".
According to the report, a Suicide Squad spinoff featuring The Joker is "a definite possibility". Jared Leto is interested, too. Another character that they are "really hot on" is Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang.
The report suggests that Warner Bros. is "feeling very confident in the property". They feel that the August 5 release would be "a really big hit" and audiences will "fall in love" with its characters.
Why shouldn't they feel that way about Suicide Squad? Right now, all signs are pointing to the movie becoming a hit. We have read the reactions of the test screening audience. You might argue that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was also supposed to be a massive hit, but I would oppose.
The Zack Snyder flick was a divisive project right from the word go. At first, people had problems with the decisions to cast Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
Later, there were complaints over a particular trailer that spoiled the entire movie. Now, nobody understands the movie, because it's too complicated! So, Batman v Superman actually had a lot of people hating it from its pre-production stage.
But Suicide Squad hasn't faced that much backlash, possibly because it doesn’t feature two of the most iconic superheroes. It's about a band of supervillains. So, people initially didn't care about Suicide Squad as much as they care about it now, after watching the trailers.
And perhaps Zack Snyder not directing it is also a crucial factor!
But it’s just a RUMOR at this point, so as with any other rumor, take it with a grain of salt!
