Justice League Dark Finds New Director

Justice League Dark

Back when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn't even an idea in Zack Snyder's mind, Guillermo del Toro was teasing a Justice League Dark movie. According to him, Justice League Dark wasn't going to share the same universe with Superman, being set in the so-called Dark Universe.

A couple of years ago, del Toro handed Warner Bros. a script for the movie. However, as the studio postponed the movie’s production, the director exited, instead focusing on the Pacific Rim sequel - which, in turn, ended with another director (Steven S. DeKnight). And the script for Justice League Dark remained with Warner Bros.

Today, Variety broke the news that the movie has found a new director, one who has been trying for a couple of years to jump onto the superhero bandwagon. Thus, according to the website, Doug Liman will direct. And you know him, after the unexpected success of Edge of Tomorrow.

Of course, you also know that Doug Liman was set to direct Fox's Gambit. However, after many delays, it appears that he has grown tired of waiting. So he switched sides. Scott Rudin (Ex Machina, No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, and many others) will be producing, while Michael Gilio was hired to polish the script.

According to various other sources, including Variety, the Justice League Dark will be composed of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. However, this piece of information should be taken with a grain of salt. Also, if this roster is accurate, it would mark a first appearance in live-action movies for characters such as Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan.

John Constantine was previously portrayed on the big screen by Keanu Reeves, while Matt Ryan brought him to life (for one season only) on the small screen.

For the moment, Justice League Dark doesn't have a release date.

However, we can expect an announcement pretty soon - otherwise, Liman could have waited for the Gambit production to kick off.
