MCU is no stranger to tie-ins. A recently rumored crossover has finally been confirmed: Avengers: Age of Ultron will overlap Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. upon its release in early May, 2015. This is not a surprise, not at all, actually: in this day and age, crossovers between standalone characters and plots have become a genuine trend. And Marvel spares no efforts to keep fans happy and embrace the vogue.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier managed to offset Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s flimsy debut. An experiment Marvel learned a lot from. It makes sense to try and repeat the scheme, all the more the TV series is not really at its best in terms of ratings. This time, however, it is The Avengers series that will intersect with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected to exceed its prequel's success. So it makes a lot of sense for Marvel to try and bump up Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s scores by making use of a cinematic concoction proven to work before.
The news: confirmed by Jed Whedon himself
Jed Whedon himself, writer and executive producer of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., opens pretty vaguely: "you should expect something". And he continues, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: "The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we're included in that". Indeed, the tie-in seems quite imminent.
On the other hand, Maurissa Tancharoen maintains a diffident stance: "I don't think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did, but there will be connections". Clearly, she doesn't doubt the prospect of a crossover between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She only questions its effect.
On that note, what side are you on? Do you think Avengers: Age of Ultron tie-in will affect Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as significantly as Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Have your say and let us know your opinion!
