For a while now, we've been talking about whether we will get to see The Defenders team up with The Avengers. The most optimistic response that we have received to date was from the Russo Brothers, who recently claimed that they have been considering the Marvel TV heroes for their upcoming big screen mega-event, Avengers: Infinity War.
Mike Colter, who was introduced as Luke Cage in last year's Jessica Jones series and has recently returned with his standalone series, paid a visit to Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM (via Screen Rant), where he was asked about the possibility of The Defenders appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. In response, the actor revealed that he personally doesn't think that it’s going to happen.
Claiming that what they’re doing in the Netflix portion of the MCU is "really unique", Colter adds:
We're adult kind of oriented. We're not PG-13. We're not really for the mass audiences, crowd pleasing, family oriented. We have sex scenes. We have, you know, adult situations, and while I think it'd be nice to be in the films, I don't know if we want to dilute what we're doing that makes us very unique.
While we may have been hoping for a more positive response from the actor, we have to admit that what he is saying is pretty much the truth. The tone of Marvel's big screen ventures contrasts with that of their shows on Netflix. It wouldn't be an easy task to bring The Defenders into an MCU movie and maintain their traits as depicted in the shows.
Colter adds that while it would be "nice" if Marvel could make it work, there is another issue that needs to be addressed"¦scheduling. The actor explains:
They schedule movies years in advance, we're shooting TV series year round. It's very tough to just kind of make things just work the way you want to because it's just so much going on.
Of course, we, the fans, believe that Marvel can manage to figure out the means to neutralize both issues if they really want to have The Defenders in an MCU movie"¦they have done enough to earn that trust. But whether they really want it to happen remains to be seen. You can check out the interview below!
