Even though Marvel Television Executive Vice President Jeph Loeb said that there won't be a Punisher solo series, this doesn't mean that Jon Bernthal isn't ready for one. He, with the agreement of many fans of both the character and the Netflix Marvel series, is always ready to become the brutal anti-hero, if the opportunity presents itself.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, the actor said that he became the character itself. We can say, after seeing the Daredevil trailers, that he nailed the vigilante's persona. We do hope that the Netflix and Marvel powers that be will change their minds.
Elodie Yung's Elektra is said to have stolen the show, but Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle will most likely leave a deeper mark on the fans, given what he stands for: when the justice system doesn’t work, someone needs to take a stand. The actor said:
"¦this guy is burned into my heart and soul. I think about him all the time. And I look at it the same way Frank would look at it. I’m a soldier, man. If they call on me, I’ll stand to attention, and I’ll be ready.
Some fans might be upset, seeing the way Jon Bernthal talks about the Punisher, and knowing what Loeb has said. Netflix is the best medium for the evolution of such a character, given the fact that this corner of the MCU is a much darker one.
And that is why some speculate that Jon Bernthal will become Frank Castle again, but much later than we hoped for. According to some rumors on the web, Netflix and Marvel are now focusing on the Defenders and the solo series that have already been announced (with Iron Fist being the last one to arrive, sometime next year).
