Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has started filming, and everyone’s excited, including the cast. Karen Gillan will portray Nebula in GoTG Vol.2, but there aren’t many details about her role in the story. She may be the main antagonist, or not.
Nebula was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy as the nonconformist step-daughter of Thanos. In the comics, she is a villain on her own. The director, James Gunn, suggested that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will explore more of this character.

"I think what I'm really excited about is delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Back in blue
The relationship between Gamora and Nebula is quite complicated. Karen Gillan posted a photo on Twitter that shows a little bit of Nebula. We can see her costume, which is quite rumpled, probably from the fight with Gamora, which took place at the end of the first film.

So, Karen Gillan feels great to be back as Nebula, and her excitement must predict something good. When asked about how she feels wearing the costume again, Gillan replied:
I kind of – I was mentally prepared to go through it again. It’s so cool. The finished product is so cool that it’s just so worth it when I see it at the end. (CBR)
James Gunn did not reveal much about the film’s story, except the fact that it will revolve around Star Lord’s father, a mysterious character.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2017.
