Ramsay Bolton died during the sixth season of Game of Thrones, but Iwan Rheon, the actor who played the part, has landed another villainous role in Marvel's The Inhumans.
Marvel has officially announced that the Welsh actor has joined the upcoming ABC series as Maximus the Mad. Maximus is, of course, an Inhuman, and the younger brother of Black Bolt, the race’s ruler. Unlike Rheon's character in the HBO series, he isn’t a total psychopath.
Showrunner Scott Buck described the character as "complex…likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment". While Maximus is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan and his elder brother, he also harbors an intense desire to be king.
Apart from his Game of Thrones role, Rheon portrayed Simon Bellamy in the E4 sci-fi comedy-drama series Misfits and Ash Weston in the ITV sitcom Vicious. He’s also appeared in big screen ventures, including The Rise and The Liberator. Marvel Television head-honcho Jeph Loeb had this to say about the 31-year-old actor:
Iwan's ability to be charming, roguish, and still completely, unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We're thrilled to have him on board.
For those who viewed Iwan Rheon's portrayal of Ramsay Bolton, there’s no doubt that he can pull off playing a bad guy.
So far, no other roles for The Inhumans series have been cast. But Reel News Hawaii has suggested that the series will move into production on March 3, 2017, so we should come across more casting news in the next few days.
The Inhumans will reportedly shoot under the working title Project Next in Kalaeloa, HI; Chicago, IL; and Los Angeles, CA.
