The second season of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD comes to an end on 19 May, 2015, but the great news for its fans is that Marvel have plans not only for a third season, they are developing a spinoff that is likely to kick-off this fall or midseason next year. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jeffrey Bell, executive producer of Agents of SHIELD and series writer Paul Zbyszewski will watch over the spinoff.
The report cannot confirm which Agents of SHIELD characters will be moving over to the spinoff. However, it claims that the spinoff will have its own standalone pilot; there won't be a backdoor pilot - using an episode of Agents of SHIELD as the unofficial pilot. The pilot will be built out of the storylines that Phil Coulson and his team explore in this season's second half. The report states that the future of the spinoff largely depends on how the broadcasting channel ABC shapes up their next pilot season. It also suggests that the planned spinoff might even be cancelled.
The Spinoff: Skye's Secret Warriors?
Now, as a result of the announcement, speculations have started on what characters from Agents of SHIELD will join the spinoff. ScreenRant comes up with the theory that this spinoff might be based on the hot Marvel property Secret Warriors. In the episode titled One Door Closes, there was an off-hand citation that Skye being confiscated in a containment cell was nothing but a part of Nick Fury's plan to hoard super-powered individuals in hiding around the world. The report suggests this might be a sign that Secret Warriors is in the plans. However, Marvel might end up surprising us all with some other plans, so it is wise not to consider this as the only possibility.
