Fresh out of dropping Suicide Squad, Tom Hardy came and said that he would have wanted to be Rick Flagg in the DC comic book movie. However, because of scheduling conflicts, he was forced to pass on the occasion of appearing in another DC adaptation. As the actor revealed, additional 3 months of shooting for Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant were scheduled and this prevented him from appearing in Suicide Squad.
However, later on, Tom Hardy revealed that he is working on another DC project, which led to many speculations from the fans.
Tom Hardy in Sandman?
The first one was the most obvious. As it is known, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is working for quite a few years now on adapting Sandman on the big screens. The actor revealed that it will be a superhero movie like nobody has seen before, a superhero flick in which no punches will be thrown.
And, as many fans presumed, this was the kind of project Tom Hardy was seeking. The two actors previously worked on two Christopher Nolan films, The Dark Knight Rises and Inception.
However, the secret project isn't Sandman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Check out on the next page in which DC film Tom Hardy will star!
Tom Hardy producing and starring in 100 Bullets
According to THR, New Line Cinema and Tom Hardy are producing the Vertigo 100 Bullets, with the actor also interested in appearing in the film. The website also reports that the script is already written, by Chris Borelli, who most recently penned The Vatican Tapes.
100 Bullets ran for 100 issues, between 1999 and 2009 and it is a violent tale about an agent who offers (apparently) random people the possibility have their revenge against wrongdoers.
Given the complexity of the comic, it isn't known how Tom Hardy's project will unfold. However, THR reports that the script follows closely the original storyline.

More details
While Tom Hardy is the biggest name for the fans, 100 Bullets is also overseen by Geoff Johns and Adam Schlagman from DC, both of which have worked on plenty of DC projects before (with the former set to write the script for Ben Affleck's The Batman).
Moreover, it is believed that Warner Bros has had this project in development for quite a few years now. However, in order to focus on the Justice League Universe, the subsidiary New Line Cinema is now in charge of 100 Bullets.
To be noted, New Line Cinema is also in charge with the Sandman project, thus showing an inclination towards edgier adaptations.
This isn't the first time when someone tried to bring 100 Bullets on the screens. A couple of years ago, David S. Goyer (who worked on quite a few DC projects, including The Dark Knight Trilogy) attempted to adapt the Vertigo comic on Showtime.
Fortunately, it didn't work out.

Changes
If Tom Hardy will indeed be the main star of 100 Bullets, some changes will need to be made, since the main character is an older man. However, this can be easily done, we believe.
Furthermore, given the nature of the comic (featuring graphic violence and explicit sex scenes), we can expect for this to be an R-rated feature.
