A few weeks ago, Greg Berlanti, executive producer of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, stated that a decision on whether a crossover of Supergirl with Arrow and/or The Flash will happen is going to be made by February. It's February, and a decision has been made! Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg have confirmed that a crossover between The Flash and Supergirl is indeed happening!
Grant Gustin's Barry Allen will travel to National City, home of Melissa Benoist's Kara Danvers. And you won't have to wait for Supergirl Season 2! It's happening this season, in the March 28 episode of the CBS series. The title and details of the episode are yet to be released.
This crossover is significant, because it opens the door for more crossovers in Supergirl’s near future, with The Flash, Arrow, and even the Legends of Tomorrow. Crossovers between Arrow and The Flash have taken place a number of times already, and Legends of Tomorrow is basically an ensemble of Arrow/Flash characters.
Plus, the CW Seed animated series Vixen is also a part of The CW's Arrowverse. Vixen voiceover actress Megalyn Echikunwoke is set to make her live-action debut as the character in an upcoming episode of Arrow Season 4 entitled Taken.
The crossover between The Flash and Supergirl connects the CBS series with the DC TV Universe. Arrowverse is actually no longer an appropriate term for this extending universe!
The Flash and Supergirl EPs express delight and gratitude!
Berlanti and Kreisberg have shared their excitement about the crossover. They have also expressed immense gratitude to Grant Gustin, the teams of the two networks, Warner Bros, and DC Entertainment. And they thanked us – journalists and fans – too! Here's what they said (via Comic Book):
We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of since we starting making Supergirl: The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for taking the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.
