Arrow Season 5 is set to premiere on this October 5 and, like every other season, it will introduce us to new cast members portraying new characters. The latest addition to the show's cast roster, according to Deadline, is David Meunier, who is best known for playing Johnny Crowder in the FX series Justified. He will be portraying a recurring character named Ishmael Gregor.
Those who are familiar with Outsiders comics should know that Gregor is the modern version of feral supervillain Sabbac, introduced around a decade and a half ago by Judd Winick and Tom Raney in Outsiders Vol. 3 #8 issue.
Initially a Russian crime boss, Gregor tricked Timothy Karnes, the original Sabbac, into participating in a ritual that transferred Karnes' magical powers to Gregor.
However, Arrow Season 5 won't be exploring Ishmael Gregor's powers as Sabbac, as they are committed to returning to the show's grounded roots.
Their version of the character is described as a "slick and intimidating Pakhan ("Godfather") of the Bratva, to whom Anatoly (David Nykl) reports and (who) takes a special interest in Oliver Queen".
Apart from Justified, David Meunier has appeared in numerous television shows, including A&E's Damien, NBC's Aquarius and TNT's Legends. He has also had minor roles in big screen ventures like The Equalizer, The Incredible Hulk, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
The casting update isn't all that we have on Arrow Season 5, as The CW has released a bunch of stills from the season premiere episode, "Legacy".
These stills include our first look at this season's mysterious big baddie, Prometheus. He's suited up and his face is covered with a mask, so we still don't know who's playing the character.
Some of the images put the flashback sequences into the spotlight, which we already know will be set in Russia. David Nykl's Anatoly Knyazev, who was introduced in the second season, is back, as evident from multiple shots.
However, we don't have our first look at Dolph Lundgren's character yet. Here are the stills for you (via Heroic Hollywood)!
