When Stan Lee chose to make comic books, the only thing that came to his mind was to create super humans that despite all their flaws would be tantamount to saving the human population from any kind of danger. Yes, there are various problems faced by us mortals on a daily basis, if it was possible for us to get some kind of help, we would be forever grateful to that person. The concept behind comic book heroes was not only to keep the people safe, but to also make sure that they could take care of the super villains in their lives.
However, there are also certain situations that can enable superheroes to become susceptible to a lot of damage. One such superhero is Spiderman, our beloved red spider. Decked out in the traditional red and blue costume, this is one superhero that not only has us swinging from buildings, but also ensures that with a charismatic presence and always the underdog story going behind the hero, we always root for him. However, however strong or powerful the comic book hero may look, there are certain vulnerabilities that can create problems for the superhero of his stature.
Let's have a look at some of the vulnerabilities of Spiderman.
10. The presence of open spaces
Spiderman thrives in places where swinging from the spider net is possible. So, much of it depends upon the availability of architectural framework from which he would be able to swing and deal with the antiheroes. However, if Spiderman is to fight in a space which does not contain any architectural framework like buildings, or even trees from which he can bounce, the fight is definitely going to turn into a one-sided affair. With apparently no place to hide and no place from which he can swing at the enemy, Spiderman would be left out in the open.
9. Pain in the joints
Granted that this is more like a problem for us common folks, but even superheroes would be suffering from joint pain due to the huge amount of lifting that they do. Yes, you can have bulging muscles, but underneath it all, all you have is the same structural joint that is necessary for every human being to perform their daily duties. Spiderman, even though bitten by a spider, still retains the human features, thereby is definitely going to suffer from joint pain upon lifting extremely heavy weights.
8. A bad and haunting past
If you are guided by emotions when fighting against someone, you're definitely going to make some mistakes. Well, the same can be told about Spiderman. Haunted by the death of his uncle, due to his own inaction, this is definitely going to play the mind of the superhero whenever a villain brings it up. This will definitely be against a lack of better judgment of the superhero, and at the end of the day, enough taunting can bring about the downfall of this hero. So, all the villain has to do is to keep bringing up the subject of his uncle, and a lot of mental distraction is going to cause enormous problems in the fighting skills of Spiderman.
7. A job to go to
Well, Spiderman has job to go to, that of a photographer. So, if the super villains to come to know about the job that would be the first place that shall be targeted by them. If Spiderman happens to be at the job, it would not only create a vulnerable situation for him, but also for all the employees in that particular office. So, as convincing as a superhero may be, having a job may not be the best thing for the hero.
6. Only A spider web as his primary mode of offence
Since he is known Spiderman, one can only guess that the spider web is the primary mode of offence for the superhero. So, unlike most of the other superheroes that have a wide range of talents and superhuman capabilities, Spiderman only has the spider web to be content with. So, as a superhero, that not only puts him in a very bad position, but also enables most of the super villains to take a stab at this particular superhero, without any compromises on their capabilities. This is a no holds barred approach towards getting rid of Spiderman.
5. Marriage
In the recent editions of the Spiderman comic series, you see that he is married to Gwen Stacy. So, Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spiderman has now got a family to be content with. So, not only does he have to keep his family safe and secure, but also this could become the main point of backlash for all his enemity with the super villains. At the end of the day, it is the family that can put Spiderman in a very vulnerable position, thereby letting all the super villains take a stab at him.
4. Spider sense
Well, it is the spider sense of Spiderman that has saved him from a lot of trouble. However, it is also this early warning system that has led to his capture a lot of times. So, although the system is something that is part and parcel of becoming Spiderman, it also is not infallible. So, you could expect a lot of villains making use of this particular vulnerability in order to corner Spiderman, and make use of his responsiveness to danger as a method to track him.
3. Electricity
It is a well-known fact that Spiderman is vulnerable to electricity. He has been zapped by the Shocker as well as Electro, and that is not something good for the superhero. So, one could possibly say the Spiderman would have to keep away from anything to do with electricity as and when he happens to be dealing with trouble. Otherwise, it is a documented fact that Spiderman would have to make use of every inch and every fiber of his body to get away from that position or else he would become a frying person, and not a flying one.
2. Complicated family problems
The continuous failing health of Aunt May, financial crisis is definitely going to run at the back of the head of Spiderman. So, when dealing with villains, if there are personal thoughts and memories running through his mind, it is certainly going to act into the way he defends the people from the onslaught of the villains. This vulnerability is found in most of the superheroes that have remaining family, and particularly affects Spiderman in the worst possible sense.
1. Not too powerful
When you think about powerful superheroes, Superman comes into the picture. You also have the Incredible Hulk and a lot of other superheroes that can become the perfect poster boy for muscles and anything to do with power. When it comes to Spiderman, you normally associate him with agility and thinking on his feet. So, when it comes to battles that are to deal with physical prowess, Spiderman is not the best adversary for the respective villain. So, you do realize that although Spiderman may seem to be the most relatable superhero around, power is not essentially in his department.
Spiderman has been, and always will be one of the most favorite comic heroes that we look up to. Not only is he the poster boy for every geek looking to make a mark in the world, but his sense of humor, and his sense of valor and chivalry on helping out the damsels in distress is quite something uncommon in the superhero world. So, one could only say that this is the perfect superhero that we have come to love and cherish.
All we can do is to thank Stan Lee for making a superhero that is not only relatable to our lives, but to make a person that is in flesh and bone, and not something that looks out of the world. All Spiderman has to do is to don a suit and his persona changes, everything else remains the same. So, although he may be shooting spider webs, taking care of villains, and making sure that the city remains safe, we, as dedicated comic book lovers, realize that this is the kind of superhero that we could all strive to be.
