Few days back, we came up with a post where we tried to imagine Marvel Cinematic Universe actors playing DC Extended Universe roles. Now, we are trying to do the complete opposite! Now, I know many of you would be shouting - DON'T YOU DARE! That's more reasonable because hardly anyone has complains over the Marvel Cinematic Universe casting choices whereas DC/ Warner Bros have always had hard time in pleasing the majority with their casting choices.
However, since the foundation of comic book is imagination, we - the fans of this genre - should not hesitate to imagine things, even though they are weird! What if the Marvel Cinematic Universe were built with actors from DC ventures? We are going to imagine that here.
But since the DC Extended Universe is just a movie old and two more movies have completed filming, we don't have many actors to fill up the gigantic Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is why we will borrow some actors from DC television shows that are active at the moment. So, what are we waiting for? Let's get started!
Hit 2 to check out the casts for the roles of Steve Rogers & and his two love interests!
Henry Cavill As Captain America!
This year's BAFTA saw the Captain America of Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Man of Steel of DC Extended Universe together with their matching beards on stage to present the Award for Best Actress to Julianne Moore. While watching that you might have imagined a Cap-Supe crossover but we did imagine something else too! What if the two actors had their superhero roles altered with each other?
Well, we won't claim that Henry Cavill would have made a better or as good Captain America as Chris Evans. But we do believe that Cavill is the best fit among the DC Extended Universe and DC TV Universe actors to play Steve Rogers. That's why he is our pick for the Marvel superhero's role!
Amy Adams As Peggy Carter!
Amy Adams plays the love interest of Henry Cavill's Superman – Lois Lane – and we don't want to disturb their chemistry! So, we would pick her for the role of Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter - the love interest of Cap from the World War II era. Do you remember watching Amy kick some butt? We don't! But, for an actress of her class, nothing is impossible. So, we would like her do some action sequences as Peggy Carter.
Margot Robbie As Sharon Carter!
Margot Robbie is our pick for the other love interest of Rogers - Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter, aka Agent 13. Robbie plays Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad - which is a much more complicated role than that of Sharon Carter. We do believe the Aussie actress has enough potential to do justice to the Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
On the next page - the casts for the roles of Tony Stark, Pepper Potts & James Rhodes!
Brandon Routh As Iron Man!
Thinking of anyone other than Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man is like committing a crime - you are going to be hated once you reveal it! And, we are not saying that we have a better alternative to RDJ. But if, and only if, we were to build the Marvel Cinematic Universe with DC actors, we would have picked Brandon Routh for the role.
The main reason for picking Routh for the role is that he plays Ray Palmer, aka the ATOM, in the CW's DC Universe. Live-action adaptations of both the Marvel and DC characters are similar to quite a good extent. Plus, we shouldn't underestimate Routh as a TV actor as he played the titular superhero in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns - which also earned him a number of awards including Saturn Award for Best Actor.
Emily Bett Rickards As Pepper Potts!
Gwyneth Paltrow is the one who plays Tony Stark's love interest/secretary Virginia Pepper Potts. Among the actress we have from DC's big-screen and small-screen universes, we would pick Arrow's Felicity Smoak cast Emily Bett Rickards for the role. These two live-action characters are most alike, the only apparent difference is that Felicity is more talkative than Potts. However, if Emily can work on that, she would make an impressive version of the Marvel character.
David Ramsey As War Machine!
The role of James Rhodes, aka the War Machine, has been played by two different actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Terrence Howard and Don Cheadle. David Ramsey, the actor who plays John Diggle in Arrow, is our pick for the role of Tony Stark's best buddy. Remember how Diggle used to get irritated with Oliver in the first season of the CW series when he was first appointed as his bodyguard? That's the reaction you need from Ramsey as Rhodey when Stark irritates him!
Hit 4 to check out the casts for the roles of Thor, Loki & Hulk!
Joel Kinnaman As Thor!
You might not know it, but Joel Kinnaman had auditioned for the role of Thor and he was one of the top contenders! That's what has helped us in picking the Rick Flagg of Suicide Squad for the role that is played by Chris Hemsworth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plus, do you have a better alternative from among the DC actors?
Jai Courtney As Loki!
Tom Hiddleston's Loki is at almost everyone's list of most favorite supervillains. Hardly anyone would even try to imagine a replacement of actor for this role. But, we have done that weird thing here! Among the DC actors, our pick for the role is Jai Courtney, the man who plays Captain Boomerang in Suicide Squad. Well, he's been impressive as Eric Coulter in The Divergent Series, and in other villainous roles he's played.
Ben Affleck As Hulk!
Picking up Ben Affleck for the Batman role had cost Warner Bros an immense resentment among the fans. Even though that has faded to quite an extent with the launch of the trailers, Affleck still remains a controversial choice for a superhero role. That is mostly due to his performance in the disastrous Fox flick of 2003 - Daredevil.
But we do believe that ample time has passed and Affleck has matured as an actor and he will prove that with next year's most anticipated DC Extended Universe movie - Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. And we do believe that if he was to be picked for a Marvel Cinematic Universe role, Bruce Banner, aka Hulk, would have been the most suitable one for him.
On the next page - the casts for the roles of Hawkeye, Black Widow & the Winter Soldier!
Stephen Amell As Hawkeye!
From the Emerald Archer of DC TV Universe to the archer of Marvel Cinematic Universe - that's what we think would be the best shift for Stephen Amell. Jeremy Renner plays the role of Agent Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, and we believe it won't be difficult for Amell to pull it off. He wouldn't have to utter "˜You have failed this city' anymore!
Antje Traue As Black Widow!
Black Widow is played by one of the finest actresses we have today - Scarlett Johansson. Picking up someone like Antje Traue who isn't as versatile as she, might seem to be a notorious choice. But do we have any other options? She is the best one among the DC actress who can pull off the action sequences of Black Widow. Gal Gadot might too, but it is hard to imagine the Israeli actress playing a Russian female superhero! We consider the German actress a better option but we do emphasize that she needs to work on her acting skills for this role!
Robbie Amell As The Winter Soldier!
Robbie Amell has appeared in a bunch of movies and more than a couple of dozen TV shows. He is the Ronnie Raymond, aka Firestorm, in the CW's DC Universe. He seems to the one who would fit most among all the DC actors as Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier. Robbie is capable of offering the stony and grounded expressions needed for the role. But he might need to work a little on action stunt skills.
Hit 6 to check out the casts for the SHIELD roles on big-screen!
Harry Lennix As Nick Fury!
Even if we didn't confine ourselves in making a Marvel Cinematic Universe with just DC actors, we would have still found it difficult to find an actor to replace Samuel L. Jackson as the SHIELD director Nick Fury. That role needs a powerful actor with strong screen presence. Harry Lennix, the actor who plays General Swanwick in the DC Extended Universe, is our pick for the role.
Morena Baccarin As Maria Hill!
Morena Baccarin is set to be introduced in the lead female role - Vanessa - in next year's first release from the X-Men Universe, Deadpool. But she plays Dr. Leslie Thompkins in Gotham and also provides voice for Gideon - the computing system of Dr. Harrison Wells in The Flash. We wanted to imagine the Brazilian actress playing a Marvel Cinematic Universe role and the role of Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill is what seemed the most appropriate.
Christopher Meloni As Phil Coulson!
Agent Phil Coulson was first introduced in the first installment of Iron Man back in 2008, and since then Clark Gregg is playing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - both on big and small-screen. Among the DC actors, Christopher Meloni, who played Colonel Nathan Hardy in Man of Steel, is our pick for the role of Coulson. His version of the character would have been a bit different from that of Clark's - perhaps a bit more badass!
On the next page - the casts for the Guardians of the Galaxy roles!
Chris Pine As Star Lord!
Chris Pratt plays Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, in the Guardians of the Galaxy series. Here, we are visualizing the character with another "˜Chris' - Chris Pine! Pine was rumored to play Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, in the DC Extended Universe but ultimately has been confirmed as the cast for the Wonder Woman love interest role - Steve Trevor. The only thing that Pine needs to do before playing Star Lord is perhaps just work a little on his physique - just like Pratt did!
Gal Gadot As Gamora!
Gal Gadot is the new Wonder Woman who is set to debut with next year's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. She would have been a cool pick for the role of Gamora – the adopted daughter of Thanos - even though this isn't as glorious character as Diana Prince is. But she recently revealed that she would have grabbed the offer of playing Antje Traue's Faora in Man of Steel unless she was pregnant. So it is hard to believe that she would have turned down the role played by Zoe Saldana in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
The Rock As Drax!
Dwayne The Rock Johnson is set to play Black Adam in the 2019 flick Shazam. The wrestler-turned-actor claims that his version of the character is an anti-hero, and here, we would want to APPOINT him for another antihero role played by another wrestler-turned-actor! It is the Guardians of the Galaxy role of Drax- the Destroyer, played by Dave Bautista. The Rock is a far more matured actor than Bautista is, so he would have easily pulled it off. Maybe he deserves a better role but there's no other DC actor who would have fit for this role.
Hit 8 to check out the casts for the roles of Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch & Vision!
Ezra Miller As Quicksilver!
From the speedster of DC Extended Universe to the speedster of Marvel Cinematic Universe - that's what we have decided for Ezra Miller! Who else would have played the role of Quicksilver better than The Flash? Okay, you might put the name of Grant Gustin – The Flash of CW's DC Universe - but we have some other role for him in mind!
Cara Develigne As Scarlet Witch!
Cara Develigne is our pick for the role of Pietro Maximoff's sister - Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen plays the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We feel that the cast for the role of June Moone, aka the Enchantress, will be best fit for the role of Scarlet Witch because both the characters deal with magic.
Jesse Eisenberg As Vision!
Paul Bettany, the actor who voiced for Tony Stark's computing system JARVIS, plays the role of Vision. As a replacement for this character, our pick would be the actor who plays Supe-nemesis Lex Luthor - Jesse Eisenberg. Presumably, casting him as Vision of the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn't have created similar chaos as that of his casting as Lex Luthor!
On the next page - the casts for the roles of Falcon, Crossbones & Red Skull!
Ray Fisher As Falcon!
Ray Fisher is set to make his debut in Hollywood as the Victor Stone, aka Cyborg, of the DC Extended Universe. He hasn't appeared in any big or small-screen ventures - so we don't know much about his acting skills. However, since he is the cast for a black DC superhero, we would pick him for another black superhero role – the one of Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, which is played by Anthony Mackie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Manu Bennett As Crossbones!
We all loved Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Arrow, didn't we? His character is perhaps the best supervillain introduced in the CW series. And we've got another villainous role for him! It's the role played Frank Grillo in Captain America movies - Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones. Does anyone have a doubt about Bennett's potential? We don't think so!
Michael Shannon As Red Skull!
Hugo Weaving played the role of Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull, in Captain America: The First Avenger. Our pick for the role is the veteran actor Michael Shannon who played General Zod in Man of Steel. Both Weaving and Shannon are fine actors, especially in a villainous role - so, altering one with the other isn't a bad move!
Hit 10 to check out the casts for the roles of Scott Lang, Hank Pym & Doctor Strange!
Scott Eastwood As Ant-Man!
We know nothing about Scott Eastwood's role in Suicide Squad. But since he is a fine actor who deserves a superhero role, we pick him for Paul Rudd's character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man. Those of you who have visualized him as Steve Trevor and Robin (those were what rumors have had suggested), might not find it difficult to imagine him as this Marvel superhero!
Kevin Costner As Hank Pym!
Kevin Costner played Superman's adoptive father Jonathan Kent in Man of Steel. "˜Pa' Kent is a mentor-like figure for Supe - so, we've picked Costner for the role of Hank Pym, the mentor of Scott Lang. We won't say that he would make as good Hank Pym as Michael Douglas - but he would definitely do justice to the Marvel Cinematic Universe character.
Jared Leto As Doctor Strange!
Jared Leto is set to make his debut as the newest version of the Clown Prince of Crime - The Joker - in next year's Suicide Squad. Thinking of Leto as Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange isn't irrelevant since Marvel Studios too did it! He was one of the three contenders for the role of the Sorcerer Supreme - the other two were Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy. So, why not pick him for the role?
On the next page - the casts for the roles of the superheroes that are set to make a debut on coming years!
Grant Gustin As Spider-Man!
After Marvel-Sony deal on Spider-Man, a number of fan-made lists that had put forward their choices of contenders for the role included the name of Grant Gustin (check out this one for example). Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to introduce a much younger Spidey, Gustin is still our pick for the role. We, too, weren't pleased with the school-going Peter Parker concept!
Will Smith As Black Panther!
When you've got Will Smith available, why would you pick another actor for the role of a popular black superhero? He is our pick for the role of T'Challa, aka Black Panther. A versatile actor like Will Smith would easily pull off the Marvel Cinematic Universe role.
Jena Melone As Captain Marvel!
Out of the limited list of DC actresses, Jena Melone - the actress who's playing an undisclosed role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – is our pick for the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. We also considered Melissa Benoist - the actress who is set to appear in the titular role in CBS series Supergirl - for the role. But since Melone is more experienced on big-screen, we have picked her for the role.
Hit 12 to check out the casts for the roles of Thanos, the Ancient One & Black Bolt!
Russell Crowe As Thanos!
Russell Crowe has hardly played a negative role in his three decade long career. Even in Man of Steel, he played Jor-El, the father of Superman, who isn't obviously an antagonist. But an actor of his class, who has bagged dozens of awards, including the Oscar, should try playing a villainous role once. That's the idea behind casting him as the Mad Titan - Thanos – of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Jeremy Irons As The Ancient One!
Marvel has made a controversial choice picking the veteran actress Tilda Swinton for the role of the Ancient One - a male character in the comics. We assume that we are making a less controversial choice by picking Jeremy Irons for the role! Irons is set to play Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal butler of the Wayne family. He is a strong actor to pull it off- that's what we believe.
Jason Momoa As Black Bolt!
Jason Momoa is set to debut in the DC Extended Universe as the King of the Seven Seas - Aquaman. He is our pick for the role of Black Bolt - the ruler of Inhumans. Black Bolt doesn't speak - so those of you who have had problems with his casting as Arthur Curry should feel more comfortable!
