X-23 – or is it someone else?

Until now, I guess everybody assumed that the little girl spotted on the set and in the trailer is X-23, a clone of Wolverine created by Dr. Zander Rice (portrayed in the film by Richard E. Grant). There are a couple of hints in the trailer that she might be this character – when fighting, when crawling, and in the final shot (she has blood on her knuckles, just like Wolverine has when he unsheathes his claws).

However, James Mangold did say yesterday that he won’t reveal the identity of the character just yet. Given the fact that he also said that Logan is a movie about family, he may have given away too much already.

But, at the same time, this could be a brand new character, especially since we don’t see the girl with her own claws. There is a particular scene in the trailer (not the red band one), when Wolverine defends himself from someone with adamantium claws – that could be X-23, but it could be someone else, as well.
