One of the best things about the Logan trailer is that it doesn’t feel like a superhero movie – instead, it feels like a sci-fi western set in the not-too-distant future.

James Mangold has said a couple of times that the intention is to separate Logan from all the other superhero flicks (which also includes the X-Universe). I guess he did succeed in this. The setting (desert) makes it feel like a western. The fact that Pierce has a robotic arm makes it feel like a sci-fi movie. The theme of the flick (family) and most of the shots from the trailer make it feel like a drama.

And only afterward come the bursts of action and the superhero stuff, like the claws and the fights with a berserker Wolverine.

There is even a very peculiar and unexplained shot (the black and white one, as if shot with a Go-Pro camera), as in a found-footage film.

The cinematography is awesome, as well. And, above all, there is Johnny Cash’s Hurt – the perfect song for this clip.

Logan is Hugh Jackman’s last flick as Wolverine – hopefully, it will also be the best of the franchise and even of the X-Universe.
