Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - A New Guardian

Not surprisingly, James Gunn said that he will introduce a new guardian in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Furthermore, taking into account what he said a couple of months before, this new guardian might just be a new superheroine.

So who could that be? Well, here are 5 ideas of character that could be introduced in the 2017 sequel!

Phyla-Vell

Phyla-Vell

Phyla-Vell

Also known as Quasar, Martyr and Captain Marvel, she is an actual guardian in the comics. Of course, this last fact doesn't necessarily mean that she will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

What is more interesting, though, is the fact that she could actually be an opportunity for Marvel to introduce their version of Carol Danvers. Obviously, there is no way we could now how Phyla-Vell could be introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

But hey - she is a female superheroine, her past could be somehow connected to the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy (being a Kree and all), she can be connected to future movies (Captain Marvel), and she has a more than interesting personality (as in her relationship choices, and not only).

Moondragon

Since we mentioned Phyla-Vell, we can also mention Moondragon, who could also appear as a next guardian in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Another interesting female character, she has powers that could supplement the ones of the entire team.

Thus, Moondragon is a powerful telepath, who also possesses (to some degrees) telekinetic abilities. It can be said that, in the comics, she is connected in some way with Drax, since he found a way to resurrect her (of course, with the help of Phyla-Vell, in the comics).

It might be Moondragon in there...

Also, she has the same ambiguous sexuality such as Phyla-Vell - so if she is brought into the fold in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, then Marvel can succeed in being truly politically correct.

If this is what they want, of course.

Mantis

In the comics, originally just an advisor for the Guardians, Mantis proved herself because of her empathic abilities, as well as because she is a very skilled martial artist (actually, one of the best in the whole universe). Granted, in the MCU, the Guardians already have such a team member - however, she could be very useful because of her ability to sense emotions and use them in order to manipulate friends or foes.

Sure enough, it is worth mentioning that, in recent times, in the comics, she is also a telepath. However, this could easily be considered just an extension of her empathic abilities. So more reasons for her to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Angela

Simply put it, Angela is literally an Angel - a bounty hunter that could easily be a part of the ragtag team in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Not an actual member of the team in the comics, she has appeared with them on several occasions.

Of course, it can be said in here that she was later revealed that she is the secret daughter of Odin, thus making her the sister of the God of Thunder - and like Thor himself, she too finds herself tricked by Loki.

Of course, the connection with the rest of the MCU is pretty obvious and either Thor or Loki could make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Or maybe it will be the other way around, since Thor: Ragnarok will be released about 6 months later. And since Ragnarok will be a cosmic event, the Guardians might fit in pretty well (also, it can be noted that Chris Pratt said that he will appear in another Marvel film besides the Guardians franchise and besides the Infinity War).

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - surprise!

No, it isn't Adam Warlock, just like it isn't Nova. Instead, what if Guardians of the Galaxy 2 introduces Lylla, the sentient otter? She was already referenced in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, so she exists.

Of course, James Gunn said that it is important for Rocket Raccoon to be one of its kind, so introducing a love interest for him will take away from his sadness and loneliness. But come on - if it was so, then she wouldn't have been referenced at all!

Plus, Rocket is already one of a kind, since, well, he is a talking raccoon as a result of experiments, while Lylla is a sentient otter. Bringing her in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 can only make sense!!!
