Best Modern Superhero Trailers

Best superhero trailers

Today has seen the release of the first teaser trailer of Captain America: Civil War - one of the most anticipated movies of the recent years and most certainly a main contender at the tile of the best superhero flick of 2016 (yeah, we go there already). And while the teaser is not as bombastic as the Age of Ultron one, it is certainly one that hits all the right notes - there is action, there is drama, and there is plot (as much as one teaser can have).

And watching this short clip made us wonder - which superhero movie had the best teasers? Which clips presented the most they could, without revealing too much and without ruining any surprises? There's quite a few of them, we can say, but we decided to go only with the best 10 of them all - from both DC and Marvel productions.

For the moment, though, we won't include the teaser for Captain America: Civil War in here - at this point, we are too subjective and the hype might just help it reach the first place. We might consider, however, returning to this list later on, with clearer heads.

So check out the 10 best superhero trailers of our modern times!

Man of Steel (2013)

Man of Steel

Man of Steel

Though the movie divided the fans (some calling it the best Superman flick of all times, some calling it the worst), the trailers did provide a glimpse into a new and fascinating world. And we knew that this won't be just another comic book movie - it was a story about a man trying to find his identity, the story of the alien (literally and figuratively) who has to find a way to fit in.

Zack Snyder is all about the visuals and the mood - and he captured perfectly these two in the Man of Steel trailers, without spoiling anything about the plot (which is the one who divided the fans"¦)

As for the action, it did feature some - though it can't be said to have been the main element. And we believe that the finest touch was the quick cut with Superman trading punches with Zod, while in mid-air.

Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man

Iron Man

Arguably the best Marvel flick to date, Iron Man also had one of the best first trailers ever - with the simple tagline, Heroes are built. The trailer was even more surprising, if we take into consideration the names involved - Jon Favreau as director (known just for comedies) and Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role (known mostly for his erratic and problematic behavior).

But Marvel struck gold! Who would have thought that Iron Man would work? Well, the trailer might have been the best sign that it will. With an awesome soundtrack, it perfectly captured who Tony Stark is in the comics - an eccentric guy with a more than problematic behavior. Coincidence?

With a hint at bigger and more iconic villains, a giant Iron Monger, and an extra-cool scene involving a tank, this trailer might just be called perfect!

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Here is one movie nobody thought will work - how can you adapt such a story line with so many missing characters? Well, Bryan Singer pulled it off, once again we might add, and managed to present a cohesive story, despite tackling time-traveling and a huge cast.

Sure enough, it can be said that many of these characters made just simple cameos - but the trailer didn't actually showed that. We knew there would be different timelines, but we didn't know which one will get the most screen time - which makes the trailer one of the very best. We had returning characters, new ones, the moody John Murphy soundtrack, and no idea at all about the particulars of the plot.

The best shot in the whole trailer? That must be when the two Professor X face each other! And, even better than that, the first trailer didn't spoil the best scene in the entire movie, the one featuring Quicksilver!

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Iron Man 3

Iron Man 3

This could have been the game-changer for the Iron Man franchise! This could have brought one of the most iconic villains of all time on the big screens! This could have been better than the first Iron Man flick!

But this isn't about the movie - it's about the trailer, who did his job very well. While it teased the terrifying Mandarin, it didn't reveal the biggest twist in all Marvel movies thus far. Ben Kingsley's voice instilled fear, even if we knew that it was just in a movie - Iron Man 3 seemed to tackle with the modern world's greatest peril: global terrorism.

Lesson number one: heroes - there is no such thing. Apparently, there was no Mandarin either.

Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool

Deadpool

Come on - it's Deadpool, it's R-rated, it's violent and it's funny. And, most importantly, it met and exceeded all of our expectations!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

What in the world happened?!? Say what you want about the final sequel of the planned quadrilogy Amazing Spider-Man, but the first trailer got us all pumped up!

It was literally filled with cool moments - even the ones between Gwen and Peter were awesome and showed that there is chemistry between the actors. We had an amazing fight between Electro and Spider-Man, just a tease of an awesome fight between the hero and the new Green Goblin (in an iconic comic book location), as well as what seemed to be a third consistent villainous character (Rhino).

The trailer also hinted at discovering more about the past of Peter Parker, him being closely watched by OSCORP, we were going to finally find out what happened to his father, and so on.

This is the best trailer of all Spider-Man movies. Period.

The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

This is one of the best superhero flicks of all time - so it certainly deserved one of the best trailers. And it had one - with Joker in the front and center. With an excellent soundtrack, some subtle foreshadowing, intense scenes (both action and otherwise), as well as some excellent one-liners, the trailer for The Dark Knight announced that Christopher Nolan has done it again.

The movie broke records, just as it should have, and scored the first Oscar for an actor playing in a superhero movie.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Batman v Superman

Batman v Superman

This was the trailer every comic book movie fan has waited for - the trailer in which Batman finally met Superman. And it delivered on many levels. Besides showing that Henry Cavill was born to be the Man of Steel, it also showed that Ben Affleck makes for the perfect Batman (in this new continuity, of course).

It had subtle hints (such as the Robin costume), it had awesome action, it had the first time when Wonder Woman came on the big screens (in a modern superhero flick), it had everything needed for a trailer to be called the best!

Zack Snyder directs so it was obvious.

Suicide Squad (2016)

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Yet another movie which hasn't appeared is on this list of best superhero trailers - Suicide Squad marks not just the first superhero flick who features only villains (well, almost), but also the return of the Joker.

And even if we add to it the many pics leaked from the set, we still don't know anything about this movie. Which is, obviously, one of the best things that can happen. Sure enough, there are plenty of Easter-Eggs in it, which have sparked some of the most debated rumors of the recent years. But nothing is conclusive - so the Suicide Squad trailer is the second on our list of best superhero trailers of the modern times.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers: Age of Ultron

While the second Avengers flick was rather disappointing, its trailer certainly showed that the superhero team found their match - James Spader's Ultron sent shivers down our spine. It also helped seeing the new additions (Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver), though we did have to wait a bit longer to catch the first glimpse at Vision.

But what really makes this the best superhero trailer of our modern times is the battle between Hulk and Hulkbuster - we had no idea why they fought, but we certainly wanted to see more!
