From afar, Batman v Superman shouldn't happen - what can a mere mortal challenge a god and not get obliterated in nanoseconds? And this is a fair question. Over the course of years, many times over, Superman has been called the most overpowered character in all the comics ever, with writers trying to find weaknesses for him - a rock from the home planet, red light, magic"¦
So what chances could have a guy dressed like a flying rat? Well, he has quite a few - if we take into account that, in the comics, Batman is called the greatest detective there is. The Dark Knight will never face the Man of Steel without planning ahead each of his movies and without anticipating the moves of the enemy.
Of course, we don't know yet what kind of Caped Crusader Zack Snyder will present. We don't know what other connections are made with the larger Expanded Universe, other than the presence of Wonder Woman. But let's give it a try!
How can the man defeat the god in Batman v Superman? Well, here are the most plausible possibilities, which always take into account the context in which the movie takes place.
Kryptonite
As said, the writers at DC have tried to find weaknesses for an overpower character. For Superman they found Kryptonite, which is basically a piece of the destroyed home planet. We know that it exists in the newly formed DC Expanded Universe and that it will appear in Batman v Superman - we actually saw Lex Luthor owning quite a big rock in the trailer.
And if Lex Luthor has it, it is in the realm of possibility for Bruce Wayne to have it too.
But how will he use it? Some rumors say that his mech-suit will be laced with Kryptonite. Some say that he has a special spear-like weapon with a Kryptonite tip (really?!?). Some say that he has a ring. In any way, with such a weapon at his side, Batman does stand a chance.
Of course, there is also the problem of getting close enough to the Man of Steel to use it - but, as seen in Man of Steel, this shouldn't be an issue. Clark Kent is still hot-headed and doesn't have enough experience in battles, whereas the Batman has had plenty of opportunities to become better and better. And, as seen in the trailers for Batman v Superman, the two will come very close one to another.
Kryptonite - that's obvious!
Sonic weapons/Gadgets
Superman may seem invincible - but he really isn't. There have been quite a few characters who have managed to bring him physical harm, without using Kryptonite. Given his human physic, he still has weak points which can be used to his disadvantage.
As Man of Steel presented, Clark managed to take control over his senses at an early age. However, he isn't perfect at doing that. Batman v Superman is, clearly, going to take lots of cues from The Dark Knight Returns. In this storyline, using sonic weaponry, Batman managed to make Superman bleed.
So it is in the realm of possibility to have Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader possess this same kind of technology. In this case, he won't need to be too close to Superman - just aim and shoot. This should bring the False God to his knees, even if for a small period of time - enough for Batman to come closer and deliver a devastating blow.
Bring some friends
Batman is no fool - and we can expect for him to be a master strategist in Batman v Superman also. And since he knows that he cannot take on Superman all by himself, he will surely make the best of all of his alliances.
The Batman v Superman trailer shows that Wonder Woman will fight someone capable of shooting heated plasma beams - was that Superman battling her? Most likely, even if some say that it was a resurrected Zod.
In any way, we do know that Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince know each other and this make us believe that they will form an alliance against the Kryptonian threat. And since Wonder Woman's sword can pierce Superman's skin, all that Batman needs to do is distract his attention just for a couple of seconds - enough for his ally to deliver a finishing blow.
We are not talking into account the other superpowered beings from Batman v Superman (Aquaman and Flash), since we don't really know where they stand in relation to Batman.
Manipulate his friends
This one has the smallest chances of being in Batman v Superman - but, as a master strategist, Bruce Wayne should know who Superman's friends are - and while we don't believe that he will do anything against his mother, we are more than certain that he will at least try to manipulate Lois Lane.
As the trailers showed, this is a different kind of Batman - one that doesn't shy away from using the most painful methods in order to obtain what he wants. He will most likely not use any of them against Lois - but he will certainly try to convince her of the real threat that Superman possesses. Will he be successful in this endeavor?
Even if it will be just for a short period of time and only at a superficial level, a fight with Lois will certainly demoralize Clark Kent. And if Superman finds out that Lois has become infatuated with Bruce Wayne (just as an example, as seen in the animated series), he would be distracted when facing the Batman.
Is this possible in Batman v Superman? Probably not - but it is worth mentioning.
Revealing Superman's secret identity
Quite frankly, this is something that should come to Bruce Wayne's mind at the very first moment - who is, in fact, Superman? And since he is the greatest detective there is, he should be able to see through the complex disguise of Clark Kent.
If he does find out that Superman is just a journalist, he may use that to his advantage - by revealing his secret identity and placing the Man of Steel behind the world's lens. With all the destruction caused in Metropolis, this will surely bring some headache to the False God.
And now it will be the time of the Dark Knight, when his enemy is distracted.
Using all of these
As we said it quite a few times, Bruce Wayne will do everything possible in order to defeat the Man of Steel. There is no such thing as overkill for him - so maybe he will use all of the above: revealing the secret identity, turning Lois against Clark, appealing to the help of Wonder Woman, using all sorts of gadgets during the fight, and bringing a deadly rock when facing Superman.
What do you think? Are there any other ways in which the Dark Knight could win against the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman?
