After his introduction during a post-credits scene of the first Iron Man movie, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has evolved as an integral character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was the one who brought the Earth's Mightiest Heroes together in The Avengers, and he was the one who showed up in a number of standalone ventures of Marvel superheroes when they needed some help. He even appeared in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.S. to save the day for Phil Coulson and his team.
But since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we haven't seen much of Nick Fury. The character did appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it was little more than a cameo. And with the enormous expansion of the MCU, we weren't sure if there's much in store for the character. We initially heard rumors about his involvement in Captain America: Civil War, but we didn't get any confirmation later. But now, we have it!
While speaking to Fandango, Samuel L. Jackson confirms that Fury is off duty for the upcoming May 6 release. However, he does reveal when his character will return: “I think I’m in Avengers 3 and 4, but I’m not in Civil War.” This makes sense, because the actor had previously said that two movies remained in his nine-film contract with Marvel Studios. Nevertheless, it also seems to debunk a-couple-of-months-old rumor that suggested Nick Fury's appearance in Thor: Ragnarok.
Nick Fury, Whose Side Are You On?
Fury isn't in Captain America: Civil War, but if he were in it, which team would he have backed? Team Cap or Team Iron Man? Here's how Samuel L. Jackson responds:
Ahhhh, I don’t know. I haven’t given it much thought. I’m Nick Fury – Nick Fury is above all that.
Nick Fury is INDEED above all!
