2025 is going to be a big year for superhero movies. For one, James Gunn is kicking off the new DC Universe with his new Superman movie. But Marvel is on deck for a big year as well. In 2024, Marvel Studios only released one movie in the form of Deadpool & Wolverine. That’s not going to be the case next year. The studio has three big movies on deck – and one of them has been named the most anticipated movie of 2025.
Fandango recently surveyed more than 9,000 fans to determine the most anticipated movies coming our way next year. Coming out on top was Captain America: Brave New World. This serves as Anthony Mackie’s first solo movie as our new Captain America. It will also see Harrison Ford playing Thunderbolt Ross, as well as Red Hulk. All of that was enough to put this MCU entry higher than anything else on the list.
Marvel also has another entry on the list. Coming in at number five is The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This reboot of the franchise has been in the works for a long time. The cast is led by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby playing Sue Storm. It will also introduce Galactus to the MCU, played by Ralph Ineson. The introduced of Marvel’s first family to the MCU is, indeed, something to be excited about.
Here is the synopsis for Captain America: Brave New World.
“Anthony Mackie returns as the high-flying hero Sam Wilson, who’s officially taken up the mantle of Captain America. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”
Marvel’s Thunderbolts was left off the list. The only other superhero movie to make the list was Gunn’s Superman. The film stars David Corenswet as our new Man of Steel. It squeaked in at number nine, just ahead of 28 Years Later. This is just one survey, but it is telling that two Marvel movies placed well ahead of this major reboot. Warner Bros. and DC have a lot riding on this, as Gunn and Peter Safran are now the heads of DC Studios. They are giving the DC Universe a full reboot, with many projects in the works. They need Superman to work.
The cast for Brave New World also includes Danny Ramirez (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Shira Haas (Bodies), Xosha Roquemore (Family Switch), Carl Lumbly (Young Justice) and Giancarlo Esposito (The Boys). Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson will also be reprising their roles from The Incredible Hulk as Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns, respectively. Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth serve as executive producers, with Kevin Feige and Nate More on board as producers.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2024.
