A Batman: Knightfall Movie Appears To Be Happening

Batman: Knightfall - DC Comics

It looks like one of the best Batman stories ever is finally getting the movie treatment. We need to caution right up top that this is just a rumor for the time being. That said, everything points to this being real. With that said, it appears as though Warner Bros. and DC are gearing up for an animated Batman: Knightfall movie. Or movies, as the first installment is being billed as a “Part 1.” Either way, this could be great news for fans of the Caped Crusader.

A listing on the Entertainment Identifier Registry, which is essentially a database to help track movies, TV shows and other projects, lists Warner Bros. as the studio behind Batman: Knightfall: Part 1. Jeff Wamester, who directed the Harley Quinn spin-off Kite Man! Hell Yeah as well as movies like Justice Society: World War II, among others, is listed as the director.

Mario-Francisco Robles, host of the Superman On Film Podcast, recently said on Twitter that Anson Mount, who voiced Batman in Injustice, is on board to star. As is Pablo Schreiber, known best as Master Chief in the Halo TV show. Until Warner Bros., DC, or someone officially associated confirms any of this, take this with a grain of salt That said, it all makes a lot of sense.

For those who may not be familiar, Batman: Knightfall was a major event published by DC Comics between 1993 and 1994. A host of different writers and artists worked on the book, including Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant and Jim Aparo, among others. The story sees many of Batman’s greatest foes escaping Arkham Asylum. Bane is the primary villain and this is the story that sees him breaking Batman’s back. It was partially used as an inspiration for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises

Here is the synopsis for Batman: Knightfall.

“The Dark Knight’s greatest enemies have all simultaneously escaped from Arkham Asylum and are preying on Gotham City. With his city under siege, Batman pushes his body to the limit as he takes on The Joker, the Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, The Riddler and the Scarecrow. But things get much worse when Bane, the man behind all the madness, confronts an exhausted Batman – and breaks his back.”

The movie probably wouldn’t arrive until sometime in 2025. For what it’s worth, DC Studios co-head James Gunn has been debunking rumors left and right online. He recently shut down rumors of Justice League: The New Frontier movie. So if this is untrue, we’ll probably find out sooner rather than later. If it is true? We’ll have to wait until Warner Bros. decides to announce it. But this is certainly something to watch out for.

The Batman: Knightfall movie does not currently have a release date.
