Marvel’s Kraven The Hunter Is Coming To Netflix Very Soon

Kraven the Hunter (Sony Pictures)

For those who missed Kraven the Hunter in theaters, fear not. You will soon have the chance to watch the Marvel Comics adaptation from the comfort of home. In fairness, Sony’s latest Spider-Man spin-off has been available to rent on VOD for a while now. But for those who haven’t wanted to shell out any extra money, it will be streaming on Netflix in just a couple of weeks.

Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra defended Kraven the Hunter as well as Madame Web, despite the results. Even so, the results speak louder than he possibly could. But plenty of viewers were at the very least curious. Madame Web topped Netflix’s charts when it arrived on the streamer next year. One assumes Kraven will draw a similar level of curiosity from viewers.

Netflix has confirmed that director J.C. Chandor’s Kraven the Hunter will be available for subscribers to stream on Thursday, March 13. This will open the movie up to a much wider audience. To put it lightly, Sony’s take on the Marvel villain was nothing shy of a disaster. It was eviscerated by critics and made just $61 million worldwide at the box office. All of that was against a budget of more than $100 million, making it a tremendous misfire.

Here is the synopsis for Kraven the Hunter.

“Kraven the Hunter is the action-packed, R-rated, standalone story of how one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.”

Kraven attempted to set itself apart by going full R-rated. It also included another classic Spider-Man villain in the form of Rhino. Not only that, but Chameleon was in the mix as well. Even so, Chandor’s movie was doomed. Following the release of last year’s Venom: The Last Dance, it now looks like Sony’s plans for further spin-offs in the Spider-Man universe are being put on hold. So, in many ways, this represents the end of an era.

The cast also includes Ariana DeBose (I.S.S.), Fred Hechinger (Gladiator II), Alessandro Nivola (Jurassic Park III), Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man) and Russell Crowe (Thor: Love and Thunder). Richard Wenk, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway collaborated on the screenplay. Notably, Marcum and Holloway previously wrote Iron Man. The duo, however, also has Punisher: War Zone and Transformers: The Last Knight to their names. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and David Householter serve as producers.

Kraven the Hunter arrives on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on March 4.
