Taron Egerton as the New Wolverine? Mark Millar Thinks It’s Going to Happen

It’s probably going to be a long time before we actually learn who will be playing the new Wolverine, but comic book legend Mark Millar believes he knows who it’s going to be; Taron Egerton. Miller recently posted on Twitter in response to a fan who was noting his ability to predict the future, once again sharing a prediction that Edgerton will become Wolverine. Have a look at the tweet…

This actually isn’t the first we’ve heard of the Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rocketman star possibly being eyed to replace Hugh Jackman in the high-profile role as Marvel’s most beloved mutant. Some rumored reports started making the rounds a little bit ago and they got enough traction that Edgerton was actually asked about it in an interview on a British radio show.

“That one I think is just a rumour,” Egerton said. “As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough. I mean if the people at Marvel think I am then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere.”

Millar naturally has some connection to Egerton, given that Millar wrote the comic book series that the Kingsman movie franchise is based on. So, is he perhaps a bit bias? Sure, but that doesn’t make this any less believable.

Hugh Jackman played Wolverine for 17 years, starting in Bryan Singer’s first X-Men back in 2000. Jackman retired the role in 2017 following the release of Logan, which served as a fitting and perfect end to his version of the character. Though, this is Hollywood and, as they say, the show must go on.

To that point, Disney completed its merger with Fox earlier this year, which effectively means that Marvel Studios, also owned by Disney, now is in control of the X-Men and Fantastic Four moving forward. That also means Kevin Feige and the brass at Marvel will get to recast Wolverine, presumably for a version of the character that will appear alongside other characters in the MCU.

However, Kevin Feige has stated that it’s going to be a while before we start seeing the X-Men show up in the MCU, as they already had their Phase 4 plans for everything beyond Avengers: Endgame planned out by the time the deal closed. So it could be a few years before this even becomes a bridge that needs to be crossed. But Egerton is willing and Millar has spoken.

So what do you think? Would you like to see Taron Edgerton bust out the claws? Or do you have another actor in mind? Sound off in the comments!
