The Crow has had a long road of mishaps ever since the studio (Relativity Media) has planned the reboot - first it lost a director when F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) exited the scene. Then, the reboot also lost several stars, including in here Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper and, more recently, Tom Hiddleston.
But all looked good when Luke Evans (The Hobbit Trilogy, Dracula Untold) entered and starting promoting the film as being something new that improved on the sources (a 1989 comic book series about a supernatural vigilante).
And a new director also found his way, this new director being Corin Hardy, who was as enthusiastic about the project as the star. The Crow seemed to be, finally, on the right track.
The Crow loses Luke Evans
But it isn't so, since Luke Evans has just announced that he has dropped The Crow project, after dropping several hints that he does intend to leave. And, according to the actor's publicist, this happened because of the long delays the movie has seen.
In this way, Luke Evans will not star in The Crow and will follow other projects instead - the movie was supposed to start shooting this spring, for a 2015 release date. But then director F. Javier Gutiérrez left the scene so these plans were scratched.
Back to the beginning
Now the production of The Crow is where it all started, with just a director attached and not a single star in sight (of course, there are rumors that Tom Hiddleston will be approached again - but take it with a spoonful of salt, if we can say so).
The timing of the release couldn't be better otherwise, even if the film doesn't make the 2015 scheduled release date. Comic book movies are the main attraction of all the major studios and The Crow, with its gritty feel, would be like a breath of fresh air - and that especially if the studio pursues an R-rated version, as most fans would want (and as the original movie was, a movie which, in a way, influenced how people see comic book movie adaptations).
