X-Men: The End of a Universe

Old Man Logan

You already know that the Wolverine sequel will be the last X-Men film in which Hugh Jackman will portray Logan. And you also know that it will be connected in some way to next year's Apocalypse. But check out what else was just leaked on the Internet concerning these films at Fox.

Mind that, this should be taken with a pinch of salt, since these are just rumors. However, they are still pretty exciting and they do tie the remaining threads together, so to speak - so check it out and tell us what you think!

X-Men - a full reboot

This wasn't a full reboot...
This wasn’t a full reboot…

The Wolverine sequel will mark 17 years since the X-Men franchise was started, with 9 movies coming out in the same shared universe. And that is quite a big amount of time without a single reboot. According to Umberto Gonzalez, this will change, since the last two X-Men movies will also be the last two of this era.

Furthermore, the same Umberto Gonzalez also gives us an idea of what storyline will be adapted for the Wolverine sequel - it will be Old Man Logan, although we don't know how that will work in the absence of the Hulk, who is owned by another studio.

The end of an era

According to the same source, this will mark the end of the current series, with the reboot set to follow it quickly. However, is it so? X-Men: Apocalypse will feature a new batch of mutants, which will more than likely appear in not just one single film (the new Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and so on).

But there may be something in here - Screen Rant came with a theory of their own, a theory which brings the possibility of a larger shared universe closer to a reality. And that possibility is Fox trading with Marvel the rights to the X-Men characters. In this way, and according to them, both of the studios would benefit.

And since the road was open with Spider-Man crossing over, why wouldn't Fox follow the same path, even if its X-Men movies can be considered box office successes to a certain degree?
