Although X-Men: Apocalypse wasn't one of the best-received superhero movies in recent years, the fans have every reason to be excited about the next installment in Fox's Mutant Universe. With the rumored working title of X-Men: Supernova, the flick will start shooting in Montreal on June 15, 2017.
Why should the fans be excited? Well, for one thing, Bryan Singer won’t direct X-Men: Supernova (again, this isn't the actual title). At this point, the studio is still searching for someone to move the shared universe forward. And no, we don't have a problem with Bryan Singer, especially since he also directed the first two X-Men flicks and Days of Future Past - but this franchise needs a new vision.
Moving on, My Entertainment World has reported that the rumors about a Dark Phoenix Saga adaptation might be true, after all, publishing a short synopsis for the movie that makes it clear what lies ahead:
Gathered together by Professor Charles Xavier to protect a world that fears and hates them, the X-Men had fought many battles, been on adventures that spanned galaxies, grappled enemies of limitless might, but none of this could prepare them for the most shocking struggle they would ever face. One of their own members, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, and that power has corrupted her absolutely! Now they must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe!
Brett Ratner tried to adapt the same storyline in Last Stand, and the result was one of the worst X-Men flicks to date. Will a new director take the franchise to new heights? We don't know - and we don't know whether Sophie Turner can handle this kind of role (after all, her Jean Grey is regarded as one of the weakest performances in X-Men: Apocalypse).
For the moment, we don’t know when the next X-Men movie will be released.
