After the enormous success of X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer wasted hardly any time to announce that gang of superheroes will return to big screen with the next venture X-Men: Apocalypse. The release date has been scheduled on 27 May, 2016. Recent reports nurture the news that Famke Janssen and James Marsden will no longer be seen as Phoenix and Cyclops, rather new faces will be introduced for the roles of the mutant couple.
Why Not Famke Janssen And James Marsden Again?
This must be the question you would desperately want an answer for, as Famke and James had been playing the role since the year 2000! But you would feel relieved to know, at least to a bit, that the replacement isn't the result of any collision, rather just the demand of the story. The plot of Apocalypse is set in the 1980s which sturdily demands younger versions of the characters. Obviously, Famke and James, who are at their 49 and 41 respectively, will not fit the roles which forces Bryan to look for new cast.
Who Are The New Cyclops And Phoenix?
Well, Bryan Singer hasn't confirmed any particular actor or actress for playing the couple's roles but all we know now is a shortlist of those whom he is eying at. According to reports, Elle Fanning of Maleficent, Chloe Grace Moretz of If I Stay and Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit are among his choices for the role of Jean Grey, aka Phoenix. Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, for the movie will be picked among Timothee Chalamet of Interstellar, Ben Hardy of East Enders and Charlie Rowe of Red Band Society. Let's wait for a while to see who among these rising stars get chance to share screens with Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender , James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult in X-Men: Apocalypse.
