X-Men: Apocalypse Reshoots to Include Wolverine

Wolverine

With X-Men: Apocalypse, the Mutant Universe will see a further change in the traditional continuity, the one which started with the first X-Men film, back in 2000. The first time things changed most notably was with X-Men: Days of Future Past, when Bryan Singer introduced the concepts of time travel and alternate dimensions.

Thus, X-Men: Apocalypse will continue and will further erase the events described until Days of Future Past. We will see the younger versions of all the X-Men seen on screen until now and we will see them facing threats which wouldn't have been possible without the existence of the above mentioned concepts.

Nonetheless, even if everything has changed since 2000, from the cast to the series of events which culminated with The Last Stand, there is one common denominator: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. From the very beginning, he has appeared in all of the X-Men movies, even in the First Class, though only with a cameo (but what an excellent cameo it was!)

This string of appearance might break, however, with next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, since the actor hasn't been officially announced. There are quite a few rumor on the web, though, concerning his appearance - and the most recent one hints that he will only make a brief appearance.

Wolverine - Go F*** Yourself!

Yeah, we need him in X-Men: Apocalypse

Yeah, we need him in X-Men: Apocalypse

The ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past was a bit ambiguous, as far as Wolverine is concerned. After Magneto impaled him and sent him flying into the Potomac River, Hugh Jackman's character was fished by Mystique disguised as the young William Stryker - thus hinting that in this new continuity she might have something to do with the mutant acquiring his adamantium skeleton.

So it isn't known what happens with him after Mystique has him.

The most recent rumor concerning Wolverine's appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse refers to the reshoots which are scheduled for the movie, which will happen in January 2016 in Montreal. According to Comic Book Movie, these reshoots have the purpose of explaining what happened to Wolverine immediately after the events of Days of Future Past.

So, basically, he will have yet another cameo, an explanatory one - so we might not see him in action, nor in the classic X-Men costume, which was teased in the alternate ending of The Wolverine. And this is kind of a bummer for some of us.

The other rumors already saw Jackman having a consistent role in X-Men: Apocalypse, with one even stating that props were prepared for the actor to use in the movie - nonetheless, for as long as the movie was shot, the actor was never spotted near the sets.

There is one other thing, though, which might shed some light into what Wolverine might be doing in X-Men: Apocalypse - check out the next page!

X-Men: Apocalypse and the Celestials

That's definitely Wolverine and that's definitely the classic costume

That’s definitely Wolverine and that’s definitely the classic costume

Back when the shooting for X-Men: Apocalypse didn't even start, Bryan Singer teased the movie with various artworks. The most interesting one, and the one which refers the presence of Wolverine, saw the mutant facing a giant ship, about many have presumed to be a piece of Celestial technology (as we all know, Apocalypse evolved by also using alien artifacts). So, evidently, that single artwork got us all interested in what further connections could be made with the greater Mutant Universe the movies haven't explored yet.

So what if these reshoots will be all about that? What if Wolverine comes in contact with these greater powers?

One thing is certain: Wolverine needs to be in X-Men: Apocalypse. Not just because he is the face of the Mutant Cinematic Universe, but also because this will provide a nice connection between next year's mutant extravaganza and Old Man Logan.
