If you are looking for the next WWII action thriller, Dunkirk is based on the true story of the 1940 evacuation of over 300,000 Allied soldiers in the French city of Dunkirk. The movie is in pre-production, and now it’s confirmed that a director has been named.
Warner Bros. has chosen the director who is going to be at the helm of this production, and they named Christopher Nolan. Nolan has earned his heavy name in the movie industry with movies like Memento, Inception, The Dark Knight, Interstellar and his next big production is Dunkirk. Same sources from Variety reveal that the film will follow Nolan’s own script and a part of the cast is in talks for the leading roles.
Dunkirk will bring some big names
Nolan is planning to use unknown names in the movie, yet some great actors are in talks to join the film’s cast. Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Kenneth Branagh (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), and Tom Hardy (Nolan's Inception and Dark Knight Rises costar) might join the ensemble.
"We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time. Dunkirk is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen." Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production for Warner Bros., said.
Emma is Nolan’s producing partner and wife, since 1997 when he shot Doodlebug, a short film. The shooting is scheduled to begin in May and it will happen in the Dunkirk area, as they want to set the story in a background as near to reality as possible.
The WWII action thriller Dunkirk is scheduled to debut in U.S. cinemas on July 21, 2017.
