The Hobbit: The Neutering of Smaug

Smaug vs. Bard in the Hobbit movies

The Hobbit, at this moment and without seeing the final chapter The Battle of the Five Armies, seems like a cash-grab. Peter Jackson made history with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and he wanted to emulate his success - but, in all honesty, he didn't succeed.

And speaking of honesty, the guys at Screen Junkies aimed low (as far as this prequel trilogy is concerned) and made an honest trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. It is pretty easy to poke fun at these movies, especially since they are each so long, despite their humble origins (we are talking, of course, about the length of The Hobbit book).

One more thing before heading out into the trenches - Peter Jackson forgot not to use CGI unless it is absolutely needed:

A few words after the clip

Is there anything else to add after seeing this clip?

We might say that a sense of nostalgia overwhelms us when thinking about this particular director and Middle Earth (if you didn't know, this is how New Zeeland was called in ancient times). However, The Hobbit reminds us again and again that old saying, according to which you have to quit while you are still ahead.

The Hobbit movies seemed like an excellent idea when they were announced - but the first bad omen was when Peter Jackson announced that he wanted to make two movies from a 300 pages book (yeah, they were not even 300"¦).

And when he announced The Hobbit trilogy, we knew that things aren't going to get better.

But that doesn't count too much as of now. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has already been released and, despite the efforts, doesn't seem to save the trilogy. Unfortunately, Middle Earth succumbed under its own weight - all that remains is history, the history of the Lord of the Rings.
