The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ravages theaters in Europe. For those of us who are still waiting, the news can only increase tension. But in a good way. Now, we all know the two prequels did not manage to fully live up to all fans' expectations. The fact is Peter Jackson raised the bar so high with the heavily acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy, that he himself did not best his very own standards.
Let's remember The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King conjointly wan 17 Academy awards. To top it off, The Return of the King was the first - and, so far, the only - fantasy movie to win an Oscar. Quite an achievement!
An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug did not go unnoticed. They too scored plenty of nominations. But they didn't necessarily score points with the fans, not as successfully as the previous Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hopefully, The Battle of the Five Armies will make up for whatever its two prequels lacked.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: a memorable final trailer
We've read the book. We all know the plot. Some learned it by heart. The official site of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies summarizes clearly:
"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. ["¦] As he succumbs to dragon-sickness, the King Under the Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield, sacrifices friendship and honor in his search for the legendary Arkenstone. ["¦] An ancient enemy has returned to Middle-earth. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide - unite or to destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives or his friends as five great armies go to war."
The final trailer doesn't bring much extra detail. But there are several footages that can fuel each fan's eagerness. For ease of comparison, we've added the two previous official trailers. Watch them, relish them and share your thoughts.
