Earlier on Monday, a German version of Star Trek Beyond trailer leaked on the web. And so, the studio thought to release it officially. Justin Lin seems to have brought in the long-running science fiction franchise the action from Fast&Furious. The trailer doesn’t lack action, nor humor, and everyone wonders if the whole film will maintain the feeling from this teaser.
The trailer opens on the beats of Sabotage from Beastie Boys and continues in a very alert mode. Chris Pine makes the introduction, “no ship, no crew”. The ship is pretty damaged and the crew struggles to survive. The Enterprise team seems trapped on an alien planet where they encounter extraterrestrial species they must defeat.
First look at the villain from Star Trek Beyond
There is humor, there is action and there is a villain. If you look closely, you might see Idris Elba‘s mysterious antagonist. And if you missed Elba’s description of his character, here you have it:
“I think "˜Star Trek' has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like "˜he's a guy who wants to end the world,' there's no doubt about that. But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that. It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the "˜classic bad guy is a classic bad guy' tone.”
So the trailer gives us a look at the crew ( Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Scotty, etc.), and they are all shattered. It reveals some plot details (the ship is damaged and the crew is on an alien planet), and unveils “the guy who wants to end the world.”
The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on July 22, 2016.
