Sony’s first big comic book movie announcement of 2017 was about the upcoming Venom movie, which will star Tom Hardy and begin shooting this fall. They followed that with the announcement that they’d greenlighted a second Spider-Man related flick, titled Silver and Black. The movie will feature Silver Sable and Black Cat, and will kick off a female-centric Spider Universe.
According to Splash Report, Silver Sable will assemble a team made up of superheroines that may include Spider-Woman, Jackpot, and Dusk. We expect to see the studio confirm these characters in the coming days.
Director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees) told Vulture that Silver and Black offers her the perfect opportunity to dive right into the Marvel Universe:
I go to bed thinking about it, I wake up thinking about it, and during the day, I have my notebook where I'm jotting down ideas and visuals and music. It's so up my alley in terms of these two female characters and who they are and what they're about. It's the perfect way for me to dive into the Marvel universe, to focus on these two women who I really respect and can't wait to bring to life.
Of course, Amy Pascal created all sorts of confusion with her recent remarks, so we still don't know which shared universe Gina Prince-Bythewood was referencing. So take from this what you will; she could have been talking about an all-female Spider-Verse.
Prince-Bythewood, who directed the pilot for the upcoming Cloak and Dagger series, said during the same interview that she hopes to start casting characters for Silver and Black anytime now, in order to begin filming in late fall of this year.
Sony hasn't revealed a release date for Silver and Black.
