If asked which of the Spider-Man movies till today seems to be the best to you, most of you might say it's the 2002 Sony adaptation of the Marvel Comics superhero. None of its successors could earn such undisputed popularity among the fans. What might be the reason behind the downfall of the franchise? How can the franchise recuperate?
Well, most fans would surely say "˜JUST GIVE IT BACK TO MARVEL and they'll bring back life to it!' But it seems like that might not happen at least for a while. Then, what? There's some new advice to Sony from an expert, the one who wrote the script of the 2002 Spidey venture, the one who's done the same for massive blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible as well, the one who stands as the fifth most successful screenwriter of all time, David Koepp!
In a recent interview with "˜Empire', the screenwriter with a total box office domestic collection of over a gigantic two billion USD on his works, shared his views on what can be done with the franchise to help it revive. Let's check out what he had to say!
Different But Concurrent Spidey Series!
According to Koepp, "There should be separate lines to cater for different ages of Spider-Man fans." He suggested the versions to be the classic Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man. He suggests the classic ones to be "˜the top-of-the-line', while the Amazing ones would have "˜almost R-rated feel' while the Spectacular ones would serve the younger audience. The veteran screenwriter added, "And these series didn't have to be consecutive, they could be released concurrently."
Give Black Cat A Solo Movie Series!
Now, we've heard that Sony has plans to develop a Sinister Six movie which, according to Koepp, is a good step by the studio. But he has a name in his mind from the Spider-Man universe which he thinks deserves solo movie series. It is the daughter of prominent cat burglar Walter Hardy, Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat, which Koepp wants to see having a standalone series. Black Cat didn't have a big screen appearance yet. We only heard from Sam Raimi that Anne Hathaway would have played a non-superhero Felicia Hardy if there was a Spider-Man 4. We also have seen Felicity Jones playing Felicia, which is again a non-superhero version.
