Chinese co-production?
Den of Geek speculates that if Robocops truly happens it will be a Chinese co-production. The 2014 movie was run successfully in China and earned $50 million in that country, almost matching stateside box office. As the Chinese audiences accepted the movie gleefully, it would make sense to partially set the Robocops story in China. This thread was mentioned in the 2014 film.
Like all stars, Joel Kinnaman was signed to do multiple sequels of Robocop movie. Thus, he is willing to reprise his role if the movie gets a green light. This is really a strong appeal for Sony to make a sequel as the actor was the best part of an otherwise ‘not so good’ 2014 film.
Since the film performed better internationally (especially in China), a Chinese co-production plan is obviously boosting the probability of the sequel.
It’s still in the balance whether Robocop will return or not. Regardless, just the possibility of Robocop 2 has got us excited. This Robocop, disguised in Joel Kinnaman deserves a sequel. Your move Sony!
