Phil Lord And Chris Miller Take Over The Reins Of An Animated Spider-Man Movie?

An animated Spider-Man movie is rumored to be on the way to the big screens. Sony airs nothing out yet about this prospect: neither confirmations nor refutations from the bigwigs of the studio. However, The Wall Street Journal reveals that Sony in in talks with Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The Lego Movie directors and Sony share a background that resulted in nothing but success for each of the parties. The 21 Jump Street series and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs could easily be cited. To top it off, The Lego Movie recommends the two directors for a possible animated Spider-Man movie under the banner of Sony.

It is established: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone fell short of fans' expectations. Sony can't afford yet another disappointment. The Spider-Man slate gropes in the dark. And even if projects are on the table, in order for them to turn out well, inspiration must be sought elsewhere.

When performing for Warner Bros., Phil Lord and Chris Miller managed to work into the plot of The Lego Movie the celebrated A-listers of the Marvel Universe. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern are all there. Chances are they could do a great job for the animated Spider-Man movie. The duo has proven they know their way around a superhero. So, what is yet another MCU figure to them? In all likelihood, a smash hit in the making.

Waiting for that Spidey summit to put everything in place

A lot of bustle around the upcoming Spidey summit programmed for January. Sony and MCU will sit and negotiate the already disclosed collaboration on the Spider-Man slate. Whether the animated Spider-Man movie will be produced as a conjoint effort or not, this is yet to be debated.
