Bad news for those who loved Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh Becket in Pacific Rim and were hoping to see the character in the upcoming sequel - it's NOT happening! In a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, the actor himself confirms that he won't return for Pacific Rim 2.
But don't blame the screenwriter or director for Hunnam's absence. They had plans for him in the sequel, and they even approached him to reprise his role from the original movie, reveals the English actor. He isn't coming back for Pacific Rim 2 due to "scheduling conflicts"!
Despite not being a part of the movie anymore, Charlie Hunnam is still excited for it. In the interview, he says:
I'm very excited about it. I'm glad they're making it.
We aren't that glad, are we? Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost and a number of other characters from the original movie won't return because they were already killed by the end of that movie. And we don't know whether Rinko Kikuchi's Maki Mori or Ron Perlman's Hannibal Chau will appear in the sequel.

They have only confirmed the return of Kaiju-obsessed mad scientists – Charlie Day's Dr. Newton Geiszler and Burn Gorman's Dr. Hermann Gottlieb.
In a recent interview, Guillermo del Toro, who is serving as a producer in Pacific Rim 2, claimed that "a lot of the cast" from the first movie would return. He actually said that when he was asked whether Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh and Rinko Kikuchi's Mako would appear.
The Pacific Rim director avoided mentioning any specific name because he feels that the sequel's director, Stephen S. DeKnight, is the one who deserves to make those announcements.
John Boyega has been signed for a lead role in the February 23, 2018 release, while Scott Eastwood is reportedly in negotiations. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens star will portray the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost.
