Back when X2 was released in 2003, the introduction scene was mesmerizing - an action-packed intro featuring Nightcrawler, a piece in which he displays his awesome teleporting power on a terrific soundtrack as he tries to assassinate the president.
Come to think about it, that scene with the unlikely superhero Alan Cumming was the best scene in the movie - why didn't they bring him back for Last Stand is anyone's guess. But there is good news: Nightcrawler will pop on the screens again, in X-Men: Apocalypse! And Cumming won't return (we don't know yet if this is a good thing or not), since the role was recast, with a much younger actor.
A new Nightcrawler
And this much younger actor to portray Nightcrawler is Kodi Smit-McPhee, who made an awesome impression in movies such as The Road (opposite Viggo Mortensen) and Let Me In (alongside Chloë Grace Moretz).
The announcement was made by director Bryan Singer on Instagram. The director teased the idea of this super-cool mutant months before X-Men: Days of Future Past was released. Of course, it would have been even better if Kurt Wagner appeared in last year's film - nobody would have mind pairing Quicksilver's awesome scene with another awesome scene featuring the blue mutant.
The new mutants
Kodi Smit-McPhee isn't the only actor to join the cast. Sophie Turner will be Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp will portray the new (and, hopefully, better) Storm, while Tye Sheridan will be Cyclops. They have already joined the older (but still younger) cast from Days of Future Past, for a movie which everybody expects to be the best of the franchise (and this says pretty much, given the success of last year's mutant extravaganza).
There isn't an official date for the production to begin yet, since the cast wasn't announced entirely. X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released on the 27th of May 2016.
