New Mutants Title and Shooting Date Revealed

Fox's X-Men movies have plenty of fans, even if most don’t agree with Bryan Singer’s direction. Taking into account the fact that this year's X-Men: Apocalypse failed to impress either critics or audiences (the movie made just $543 million worldwide, on a reported budget of $178 million), would fans even be interested in an X-Men film directed by someone else?

Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is the director Fox has entrusted with a new X-Men franchise. Scheduled for a 2018 release date, the first movie will focus on the first graduates of Professor X's school for gifted youngsters. If until now we only had a rumor concerning the title of the New Mutants movie, Josh Boone may have now revealed the full title.

And, as expected, Fox wants everybody to know that this movie is connected to the larger X-Men universe, with the film being called X-Men: New Mutants. As far as the shooting date is concerned, Boone confirmed via Twitter that it will happen in May 2017.

As an inspiration for the X-Men: New Mutants film, the director and his co-writer/childhood friend Knate Gwaltney checked quite a few comics, even pitching a trilogy idea for Simon Kinberg:

We had loved Bill Sienkiewicz's run with Chris Claremont that had Demon Bear. It was really dark, interesting, and different from the typical X-Men stories that we had read. After I made The Fault in Our Stars, we made Fox a comic book. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do. We brought it to Simon and he really liked it. We've been going for the past year and a half to get it ready, and I'm about to go location scout and we have a release date now.
