It appears that Thandie Newton, best known for portraying Nyah Nordoff-Hall in Mission: Impossible II and Maeve Millay in the HBO series Westworld, is headed to a galaxy far, far away!
According to Variety, the British actress is in talks to join the as-yet untitled Han Solo standalone movie. But, like any other Star Wars venture, the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller flick is surrounded with a veil of secrecy, and we don’t know any details about Newton’s character, not even her name.
The 44-year-old actress is also recognized for her roles in Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness, W., Jefferson in Paris, The Chronicle of Riddick, Retreat, and Good Deeds. Her upcoming projects include Nash Edgerton's American Express and Xavier Dolan's The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, as well as the next season of the BBC series Line of Duty. Of course, she’ll return in the second season of Westworld, as well.
Variety also reported that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is in negotiations to join the Han Solo movie. While it was revealed that her role would be CGI-driven, the name of her character hasn’t been disclosed. However, she will have "a significant part", similar to Chewbacca, C-3PO, and K-2SO, in the May 25, 2018 release.
Waller-Bridge is most recognized for portraying the titular character in the Amazon series Fleabag and Lulu in the Channel 4 series Crashing. She also serves as writer for both comedy shows.
The Han Solo movie has been filming for more than a week now under the working title Star Wars: Red Cup. Besides Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the cast roster includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson as Garris Shrike, and Emilia Clarke in an unspecified role.
