The much awaited sequel of 2011 global hit Mechanic finally got a release date! On November 4, filming of the movie started in Bangkok, Thailand but the date of release was yet to be announced. Three days later, Lionsgate Entertainment and Millennium films announced that Mechanics 2 or in appropriate terms Mechanic: Resurrection will hit the theatres on 22 January of the year 2016.
Jason Statham, who played the lead role Bishop in The Mechanic, will retain his role in the sequel. Ben Foster, Tony Goldwyn and Donald Sutherland will not appear in the action thriller sequel. But the good news for fans is that Sin City star Jessica Alba and Tomorrow Never Dies star Michelle Yeoh and The Fugitive star Tommy Lee Jones will be seen sharing screen with Jason.
The story of Mechanic: Resurrection starts with someone from Bishop's past forces him back into his business. He feels the urgency to "complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world." The movie will no longer have Simon West as the director, rather German director Dennis Gansel will take over. Gansel has previously directed prominent movies like The Fourth State and Before the Fall and won a number of German awards. We will have to wait till 22 January, 2016 to find out if Gansel's Mechanic: Resurrection surpasses Simon's The Mechanic!
