Mad Max: Fury Road Prequel in the Works

Back in 2015, nobody was expecting Mad Max: Fury Road to be the success it turned out to be. It didn't star its main actor from the original trilogy, it was made about 30 years later than the previous film, and it was directed by someone who previously made Happy Feet movies. Sure, the Mad Max: Fury Road trailers did look good - but they were still just trailers and nothing more.

Mad Max: Fury Road received universal praise from the critics, being rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 97%. It also won six Academy Awards, and managed to double its budget and then some. So, obviously, sequels were planned. According to George Miller, his intention is to give Tom Hardy a trilogy of his own, just like he did for Mel Gibson.

However, the director also said that his next movie won't be set in the Mad Max universe.

And this means that the next movie set in this shared universe won't be directed by him. The latest news says that Furiosa (Charlize Theron) will get her own spin-off. According to CBM, the studio has already found the setting for the shooting of the film (Broken Hill Studios), and the script focuses on Furiosa's backstory.

Furthermore, the same website says that the actual shooting of the movie should start by the end of 2016.

While Mad Max: Fury Road was an awesome movie, and while Furiosa herself was an interesting character, it may be that the studio is hurrying too much to cash in on the success of the previous film. When Fury Road was released, many fans of the original franchise said that Max should have had a bigger role.

Which, as far as we are concerned, means that not that many were interested in Furiosa. So the question is:

How many are interested in a Furiosa spin-off/prequel of Mad Max: Fury Road?
