There had to be a reason why Kevin Feige (and, in extension, Marvel) decided not to attend this year's San Diego Comic Con, probably the biggest and most well-known convention about movies and such in the world.
Leaving aside the fact that this will give the main competition a chance to shine (yes, DC will attend the SDCC, with plans to release new clips for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and a first look at Suicide Squad), can you imagine of a reason why Kevin Feige decided this?
Well, here is the simple answer!
Kevin Feige talks Marvel's absence at SDCC
Last year, in October, Kevin Feige revealed Marvel's plans for the next years. And these plans included all the movies that Marvel will release in Phase III, culminating with the Inhumans movie, which will be released after Avengers: Infinity War Part II.
And this is the reason why Kevin Feige decided against attending this year's San Diego Comic Con: "It was just timing. We had done that event in October, when we announced so much. Everyone knows what we’re doing over the next few years. I really have a belief: If you can’t go to Comic-Con and over deliver, then don’t go." (via Comic Book).
But is this a good enough reason?
Maybe he should have decided something different
Since the October event in which Kevin Feige revealed all the titles of the Phase III, something new happened. And that was the addition of Spider-Man to the MCU roster. So there was definitely something new that they could have brought to the table.
Furthermore, Captain America: Civil War is well underway with the shooting, with the shooting of Doctor Strange already begun. So yes, there was something new.
But then again, thinking about the main competition, maybe Kevin Feige is actually right. DC will bring two of the main attractions of 2016. And there is no way for a small teaser for Civil War to have been shot.
And maybe it is better not to have anything, rather than having some concept art and nothing else when facing Batman and Superman.
What do you think?
