Late last year, Marvel Studio announced Captain Marvel as the first female superhero solo venture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They have scheduled the movie for 6 July, 2018 release and have kept silent about it since then. We just heard that The Divergent Series star Shailene Woodley is being eyed for the lead role. But Marvel didn't utter anything on that.
Now, there's another rumor on the upcoming female superhero venture that has come alive recently. The rumor published in the February issue of "˜OK! Magazine' states that Marvel are looking forward to sign the Hollywood heartthrob Angelina Jolie for Captain Marvel! Surprised? Well, they don't want her as the lead actress or for any other role in front of the camera; rather they want her to play the lead role behind the camera!
An Offer Of $20 Million!
According to the magazine, Marvel has been extremely impressed with Jolie's directorial performance in Unbroken and that is what makes them consider the actress-turned-director as the top choice for directing Captain Marvel. Not only that, the magazine claims that Jolie has been offered a mammoth 20 million USD for the job!
Two movies directed by Jolie have been released and another one is set to release in September this year. Her directorial debut venture, In the Land of Blood and Honey was a box-office disaster while the second one, Unbroken, could impress the fans as well as the critics. But Marvel being so impressed by it to offer her such a big money deal is still an astounding thing to hear!
Does It Make Sense?
We already knew that Marvel is looking for a female director for Captain Marvel which is like a trend for any female superhero solo venture. For instance, Warner Bros & DC has signed Michelle MacLaren for directing their 2017 female superhero solo Wonder Woman. According to the magazine, the reason behind Marvel's interest on Angelina Jolie is that signing a female director is a compulsion for them.
Jolie's still one of the most influential Hollywood celebrities. Marvel has liked her directorial work which must have been the primary concern for them. So, now they might also consider her star-power as a bonus for the venture. They must be planning to add glamour to Captain Marvel by every possible means if they want it to be a big thing, at least bigger than Wonder Woman. Approaching Jolie for directing the movie and offering her that big sum seems to be a part of that particular strategy. What do you guys think though?
