Jodie Foster criticizes superhero blockbusters for ruining the viewing habits!

Millions of moviegoers the world over spend their hard-earned money on blockbuster movies about superheroes. Hollywood studios may be thrilled about this, but it appears that it gets on Jodie Foster's nerves.

During a recent interview with Radio Times Magazine (via The Telegraph), the two-time Academy Award-winning actress, who is currently working behind the camera, made it clear that she isn't a fan of big-budget superhero movies. She also indicated that she’s not thrilled that studios are making more and more superhero movies to the exclusion of the mid-budget movies they made in the past:

Going to the movies has become like a theme park.  Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking. You get the best return right now, but you wreck the earth. It's ruining the viewing habits of the American population, and then ultimately the rest of the world. I don't want to make $200 million movies about superheroes.

Of course, Foster isn't alone in her reservations about superhero blockbusters. Action movie star and Academy Award-winning director Mel Gibson has said that he's "really baffled [by the] outrageous amounts of money" spent on the movies. Logan director James Mangold has said that tentpoles are not movies, but "bloated exercises in two-hour trailers for another movie they are going to sell you in two years". Finally, Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie simply stated that he "can't f*cking bear superheroes".

But maybe Foster doesn't hate superhero movies quite as much as Mackenzie does. During the interview, she suggested that she would even consider making one. Of course, she has one condition: Any superhero she plays would have to be of "really complex psychology".
