Jeremy Renner’s Role in Spawn Reboot Confirmed!

We recently learned that Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) – who’s shown time and time again that he’s so much more than an action movie actor – was in talks to take on the role of Twitch in the upcoming Spawn reboot. He’s also an excellent dramatic actor, especially when working with other talented actors.

And now, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has made it official. He’d taken note of Renner’s acting chops and immediately made the decision to cast him as Twitch!

Here’s McFarlane’s official announcement:

As a first-time director, I wanted to surround myself with the most talented and the most skilled people I could on all fronts. I was lucky enough to land Jason Blum, and then Jamie Foxx, and I knew the person on screen the most is this police officer, Twitch Williams. We needed as strong a person as possible, because he will be the face of the film.

I took my naïve Hollywood approach again, and said let's start at the top and work down. Jeremy was at the top. I'm a huge fan of his. The character doesn't need to be a bodybuilder or GQ handsome. I was looking for somebody who's a person you've met before; I needed someone who can pull off the grief of an average human being. I've seen Jeremy do that in more than a few of his movies. He was at the top of my list, just like Jamie (via CBM).

In spite of initial fan reaction to the Spawn reboot and McFarlane's demands, this movie is shaping up to be quite an interesting project. We’re looking forward to seeing who else joins the cast.

We’re sure that casting Jeremy Renner as Twitch was a stroke of genius!
